I have a vortex razor 4.5-27x56 and a masterpiece arms 65ba on the way and trying to order rings to have everything here to shoot this weekend. It comes with a 20 moa rail and I'm looking at the vortex precision rings in 1.1 or 1.26 height. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I posted a thread years ago that will figure it out, as long as you know some measurements. However, unless that chassis has an extended flat top receiver, like an AR, either of those ring heights will be more than enough for a 56 objective. Here is copied text from the post:

[rail height + ring height] - [bell diameter x 0.5]

If the value is positive, then your bell will clear the barrel. Ideally, you want that bell to be about 1/4" or less over the barrel. This will give you a tight cheek weld. Be sure to account for Butler Creek caps if you intend on using them.

If you are using a 40mm objective, then you can use the lowest rings and bases available, as the bell will certainly clear the barrel with no problem. i.e. don't worry if the bell ends up being higher than 1/4" over the barrel.

Just another note. If you are using a scope base and/or mount/rings that have built in elevation, that may have to be accounted for in the case of very small clearance. To calculate this, we need to know the amount of elevation built into the mount/rings and/ or base, and the length from the end of the scope base to the end of the scope bell. Convert MOA into degrees, and then the equation is:

Tan ? x length

For example, if you are using a 20 MOA base, and the distance from the edge of the scope base to the end of the bell is 5". 20 MOA = 0.333 degrees, so:

Tan 0.333 x 5 = 0.029"

This means that you need an extra 0.029" of clearance in addition to the calculation above

My personal suggestion would be the 1.1". I just mounted the same scope to an AI AT and used Seekins High (1" height) rings and it's just about perfect (for me anyway). Some guys like their optics way up high and compensate with elevated combs - where as I prefer mine as low as possible. YMMV

Thanks guys.

I would ideally take measurements but the rifle is in the mail. I'm just anxious and trying to get everything ready to shoot this weekend. Rifle should be here tomorrow or friday. I have to order online. No one carries 34mm rings in my area.

I'm just going to order both and send the other back. Should be able to tell without mounting them fully.

Do you have a picture of the chassis? Here is an old pic for reference of a mount .825" high with a 50mm objective and a 20 MOA base. So add about 3mm and you get the picture:

With that set up the one thing you have to worry about is the NVG mount as you need to clear it or remove it if the scope comes close to it. The Razor II is shorter but with the sunshade it it will add 4". You might come in just in front of it but hard to tell before mounting.

Here is a pic of a Surgeon action with Med Palma barrel and the 1.26" height rings. I run 1" height on other rifles but this one with the other barrel contours I have for it was too close with the lower integral 20 MOA base on the Surgeon. The 1.1" height should work fine for you and your set up.

This is in 1" height with a Badger 20 MOA base on a Rem 700 with a M24/40 contour barrel.

Thanks for the pics they help. I ordered both to be safe.

I didn't think about the night vision bridge and sunshade. Never had a scope with one.
I try to avoid returns but I'm to excited to get the scope mounted and start shooting this weekend. Rifle will be here tomorrow and didn't want the wrong rings and have to Just look at a new rifle and scope all weekend.
