Hi guys, I need some help to make sure I order the right stuff. I've ordered a Savage MK II BV and it hasn't quite made it to my doorstep yet. I want to have my scope and all mounting hardware delivered by the time the gun comes in. It seems everyone here is a big fan of the 20 MOA EGW mount for the MK II so I'm going to go that direction. My question is, with a Mueller APT 4.5 - 14 x 40 scope, what rings should I be purchasing? Should they be Weaver or Picatinny style rings and what height (Low, Medium, High)? I doubt that I'll ever get past 100 yds with a .22 if that helps. I appreciate the help.

Re: Ring Height

As low as possible and still ensure clearance of the objective lens. :p. yeah...pretty profound.

Oh, and it doesn't seem like you would need a 20 MOA base if you're not going to be shooting beyond 100 yards. I'd save the money and just go with standard bases if that's as far as you intend to shoot. Just a thought.

Re: Ring Height

Thanks, I looked at that sticky before I posted, but a lot of the ring manufacturers don't post their dimensions. I just figured someone else probably had this setup. I'm getting the mount because I've heard that the stock mounts are pretty undersized and it's tough to get the rings tight enough on the MK II.

Re: Ring Height

I think i found the ring heights for the rings i used somewhere else on RFC. I also have the EGW 20 MOA base on my Savage 93fv, thing is I don't remember what rings I ended up using cause once i got it set up, the rifle kept mis-feeding and mis-firing, so it's been sittin in the back of my safe.

After some digging around, I found that I used Leupold PRW medium rings with a Nikon 3-9x40 prostaff. i had butler creek flip caps and the clearance between objective and barrel was just right. The PRW rings I have are .335" from the bottom of the metal that fits in the cross slot of the base to the bottom of the ring that the scope sits in.

Hope that helps.

I've that exact scope and EGW base on my 93R17 FV and used Weaver mediums (#49196 from Wal Mart), which resulted in .04" clearance over the heavy barrel.

So I'd say, if you have a heavy barrel get rings that are approx. .16"-.17". If your barrel is the smaller diameter, most mfg's lows would be good to go.

Keep in mind, the definition/dimensions of ring height varies a lot across the board from mfg to mfg. One man's low is another man's medium.
