There are only five of us Marines attached to this unit. I'm just the dog handler working with a few other Marines supporting a special unit. It's a unique relationship when you have so few Marines together. You get to know eachother much better than if you were with a large Marine unit, or any Marine unit for that matter. I've only been with them a little over two weeks, and I've only known Sam the same amount of time. Sam was nothing but a great man and I felt he was someone I could look up to.

I'll never forget that day, and I thank Sam for giving me a better life by showing me what I truly have. I can't wait to get back home to my wife and tell her in person how much I appreciate her.

I'd like everyone to stop and realize what they have in life and appreciate it if you think you haven't done that recently. Sam was a great man and I pray his family can move past this and live in peace.

It always saddens me to see the amount of talent that dies in wars - it is a humbling experience to have served with such a fine Marine and then is struck down in his prime.

That truly sucks. And while the rest of us were busy at the mall, too....

Officers are easy to find, but unselfish officers willing to lead from the front are not always available. I am glad that his spirit lives on in those that looked up to him.
