So I’m going to be picking up a 8lb keg of one of these powders and want to see what you guys think. This will be for a new 28nos 26in Proof barrel. I’ll be hunting from 90-0 degree weather. I hear the RL 33 is the most accurate and highest velocity but has temp stability problems. Retumbo has temp control and I’ve heard it has decent accuracy and velocity. What would you guys choose? I plan on shooting both to see but if it’s not worth the temp stabilty maybe I shouldn’t even try the RL 33 in fear of liking the results haha.

They are two different burn rates. Retumbo is the faster of the two. I have no idea which is more appropriate for that cartridge.

For a comparable powder to RL33 try IMR 8133. I am using it in my 338AX and am seeing about 0.66 fps change per 1 degree ambient temp change.

I haven’t used RL33 in the. Older, but it’s a nice powder. Not designed temp stable, but not bad by any stretch. I use it in the 300 Norma. Quite a bit slower than retumbo. Like skookum said, 8133 might be the ticket. Believe that’s an enduron powder, so better stability.
