Well after a couple years of wanting to make the trip to Roberts shop I finally bit the bullet and went for a visit.
I tagged along with Mark Rossett and we were planning on just watching Robert rebarrel his current rifle. Things change quickly when you walk into a shop with the best parts avaliable in the country.
Long story short... Instead of a rebarrel job. A new full build was in order. The components he had were all the best avaliable. Surgeon action and DBM, jewell trigger, MCM stock, and Kreiger barrels.
I watched in amazment as Robert began to build this rifle. He opened my eyes to what it takes to build a quality rifle. Just dialing in the barrel showed me that a quality smith can't put lots of barrels out of the shop in one day. He puts his heart and soul into each build, that is for sure. He is extremely humble and proud of his work. We talked about the accuracy he thought the rifle would produce at 100 yards. his reply " It should shoot in the .3s for sure, But I wont be happy with that. Will you? We just need to hope that we got a really good barrel." He wants every gun to be a one hole gun. And if it shoots in the .3s than o.k., as long as it hold that at distance.
Robert is set in his ways about what products on the market are the best. He is one heck of a great guy. I had a wonderfull time at his shop and hope to go back one day soon to learn a little more.
The rifle still needs a few final touches. We should be able to post some pics next week.
THANK YOU ROBERT for making the trip something I will never forget!!
