I'm new to this so bare with me. I have a newly acquired savage in 280ai, I bought some used and new brass for reloading. I've tried a new and old piece of brass in the chamber and when I try to close the bolt on either piece it is very hard to close. Does the brass need to be run through a sizing die? All help is greatly appreciated.

Your onto it. The brass needs resized. There is a good tutorial on the this site on how to bump the shoulders back on your brass under "Reloading." Savage head spacing is usually down to a minimum so I am sure the brass prob. needs resized. I own a Savage and that was the case with my reloads. Good Luck!
