RRA LAR-8, DPMS LR-308, or CMMG?

Re: RRA LAR-8, DPMS LR-308, or CMMG?

I have a LAR-8 and love it. It uses FAL mags and it a bit different, but quality, trigger and workmanship are all great. RRA has always been good to me, I use their AR15 for service rifle matches.

Mine shoots 3/4 to 1 moa with just about any decent match ammo.

I can't comment on DPMS, they were my second choice. I had an Armalite .308, lousy mags, it ate gas rings for some reason and customer service did not impress me. Armalite accuracy fell off hard when it got warm, it would shoot a decent group cold, but after five shots it was done for the day or until the bbl got back down to room temps.

I know you didn't ask about Armalite but since they were thown under the bus earlier, I'm gonna comment. I've run them now for 12+ years without any issues....none. I own three right now, two AR10's (AR10A2 w/ match barrel and an AR10T w/2600+ rnds) both run like machines and are boreingly sub moa. I've run everything from factory Armalite mags to bought out of a pile modified mil M14 mags with no issues, very reliable. McFarland one piece gas rings are probably the best in the industry for AR10 type rifles and thats what Armalite uses. I dont personally know anyone who has ever had any negative experience with Armalite CS and besides this thread, cant remember even reading about any. I've spoke with them several times in years past asking advise and they've always been very patient and helpful. Mark Westrom even answered the phone once when I called, very nice guy and very knowledgeble.

I like RRA rifles and think thier quality is very good but I have no experience with thier 308's. Never been a fan of DPMS, fit and finish has always been a bit sloppy to me but its been a few years since I've messed with them. I will admit though, I've known of the LR308 to print some nice groups yet I wouldn't trade an AR10T for two of them. JMO (and experience

I absolutely love my RRA LAR-8 predator HP. Shoots great no matter what ammo I've put through it. Build quality is beyond excellent and the trigger is great from the factory compared to the DPMS and CMMG triggers I've used.

I have a few RRA, one being a Lar8 standard operator w/ 20in barrel. I have an in-house hookup that worked the 2 stage trigger to a sweet 3.5lbs. I love this thing.

Re: RRA LAR-8, DPMS LR-308, or CMMG?

I have the old Bushmaster BAR10 which was the predecessor of the RRA 308s. I really like the gun, but I personally feel it is held back by the FAL mags. Don't get me wrong, I can't fairly judge RRA by my old Bushmaster because I don't know what all they have changed since my "prototype" was built. But the mag release on mine is ambidextrous and is very hard to actually make it release a mag due to its design. I tore it down and polished all the surfaces and lubed it with everything known to man with no results. I definitely DO like the bolt catch between the trigger and mag well.

I have a lot of FAL mags and about 30% of them are troublesome for one reason or another. This includes brand new ones. They are not near as easy to find as they used to be either. I hear RRA has some plastic mags, but I haven't tried any yet.

Other than the gun being designed around FAL mags, I love it--just something else to consider before you buy. Know anybody with a RRA you can shoot/handle before you lay that green down?
