So a couple of nights ago my anvil head (now about 18 mos old and used about 1-3 times per night) started going "snap" when I first try to move it after releasing the "tension latch" with the gun on the tripod. It goes "snap" every time. Now, in the house, with no gun on it, it does not do that. But it "creaks" when moved. So, does it need some sort of lubrication ?? I guess I see if I got a manual with it (which I'm sure I never read :D ).

Anyway, the "snap" is especially concerning as on a night with no wind, the critters could hear it from at least dozens of yards away. Its pretty loud. especially in a setting where we try to make ZERO sounds.

@MPHReallyRightStuff calling all helpers !!! :)

I purchased 2 of the Anvils to upgrade the Manfrottos I use under spotters for classes. Both of them are terrible about sticking when released and usually exhibit that pop you are referring to before they actually release for free movement. The noise is not a big deal with us because we are training on ranges but it is annoying because you have to put a fair amount of force on the head to get it to release which results in an exaggerated over-swing of the spotter once it is free. I would guess the same result would be present if a rifle was locked in.

We have just found that there have been a few balls not perfectly in the round. If you guys or anyone else wants to send them back to me to get the replacement ball its no issue and I would prefer that so it can be worked out perfectly.

If you dont have time for that right now, take it apart (i can tell you or show you how/there is a video), sos/scotch bright the ball and the washer cups a bit and put it back together and it should be released. Cant tell you how long this fix works for but it can get you through a couple of nights or months of nights before it happens again. I am working on getting more and more of the balls made right now and trying to get out some orders as well.

Hit me up via email, Mhaenel@reallyrightstuff.com I will do whatever in my power to make it right. Or my phone is 385-248-0800

Anvil video here. Watch the video, in the very beginning when he rotates the clamp lever 90 degrees, now since being updated we have to rotate it the opposite 90 degrees, is the only change to take it apart.

Aye. Now again, mine worked fine for 75 weeks of 10hrs per week ... and then it didn't ... just FYI ...

sos/scotch brite ... will google up on that.

I ordered a second (copy exact) 2 weeks ago, but it isn't here yet. :)

@MPHReallyRightStuff just got on line with me and walked me thru take down and cleaning process for the head. It's easy if you know how ! And also showed me how to retension the ball head latch.
I will test tonight. It does seem to be moving easier now with less noise.
Thanks !!!

Ok, went out and tested tonight and all is well, the "snap" or "pop" is gone. Super Than ks to @MPHReallyRightStuff for getting online with me today and showing me how to fix this !!!!

Really Right Stuff has Really Right People !!! :love:

P.S. and it was 26F and snowing when I was out there, so it was a good test if cold had anything to do with exacerbating the situation ... but the root cause was "dirt on the ball". I use my crap too much :D
