I've been hearing about a RRS Competition Tripod that was at Shot 2020 that is suppose to have fast deploy legs, but I haven't seen any pictures or details about it. Anyone got info?

It will come out on the site by early next week. 64.3" Standing to top of the apex, 34.8" collapsed in first position, 38.2" collapsed when carrying in your pelican, scabbard, etc. $860

Why are all these tripods so tall? All the good shooters are 5'6" or less anyways

Having extra height is good for when you need it. Especially if you are shooting up angles, using binos or spotters, predator hunting in a super muddy field, etc.
The OP said competition and some people are calling ti that as it was one reason behind it. But a one size for all people, predator hunters, competitors, flat range shooters just having fun. New shooters that cant afford the 1160$ but this might be closer to their budget. And other reasons.
But don't fret we have a TVC-33s (short) just for you.

it can not take the tfct apex. Tiwst locks would not allow the tripod to shut fully since they are on top. This will accept the anvil with the 2 series platofrm adapter. The anvil is what is currently holding up all our orders. We attempted to make it a perfect sphere which has been biting us in the butt, as it is very difficult. But end product will make the feel better

That is the tripod. We typically dont sell packages, since everything is so plug and play. Except for the Anvil which only goes into that specific apex.
A 25ish to 45ish tripod like this for hunting would bethe cats ass. No digging in the snow for leg extension, no leg extensions getting caked in mud. And I’d bet it’s nice and light.
Makes sense, I’m currently running an anvil head on the pig lite tripod just because it’s what I could afford at the time, looking to upgrade to an rrs some time this year and weighing my options. Short is a good thing for me as I want a tripod for mainly seated/kneeling/ prone at odd angles, along with something to glass off if seated for the most part.
The weight savings and simplicity of two legs would sure be nice, and after picking clay all fall out of flick locks I’m ready to go back to twist locks.
@Diver160651 definitely wasn't designed for that purpose. Normal Competition, new users wanting gear for flat range, predator hunters mainly in feilds, etc. This will not be a long distance strapped to the side of your pack (most likely) tripod. But if you want if for mountains, I would put two legs in the prone position and use a bh-40 which can go into a drop notch and still have the ability to go side prone or seated. You would definitely take up a larger footprint though. But I would be using a different setup most likely in that situation.
I like the concept a whole lot, great job on continuing to move the needle RRS!

If someone asked me specifically for a hunting tripod that is that short, light, made for a pack and majority seated kneeling, maybe a chance to shoot hunched standing very rarely I would push them to the TFC-14. Saves more weight than this, same price'ish, lots of pros to it.

That all makes sense; no need to reinvent the wheel if the TFC-14 already does it, and arguably better to boot. The only other thing I thought about was it being nicer to make leg adjustments once deployed from the top instead of having to reach down and break position to do it. But that may not even be a thing with inverted legs, just brainstorming.
I have a Gitzo Series 3 3540XLS tripod. It's a 4 section and get stupid tall, I think around 80" to top of ball head at max extension. I most got it b/c it was a good deal but have found that the collapsed height of around 28" is perfect to quickly deploy sitting / kneeling without extending legs.
Inverted legs, by which I think RRS is meaning the big outer section of the leg slides down vs littler sections of leg sliding down, remind me of the Benbo tripod and Atlas bipod legs. If sealed, they work great even if submerged.
Not sure if it’s still made, but the Benbo was designed off of a machine gun mount.
It also had just one handle to adjust leg angle and center column height, which could cause accidents in unfamiliar hands.

How steady is that anvil on the pig lite tripod? I want a anvil on top of some kind of tripod. Just don’t know if I need to drop RRS kind of money on something to go out and shoot coyotes and beat the piss out of the tripod?
Works great. Can’t really compare it to anything better, but it’s pretty steady and the anvil head kicks ass. If you have rrs money I’d highly recommend doing the whole setup. My main complaint with the pig lite is the head can rotate with the rifle if I pan left. My plan is to upgrade to an rrs tripod as money allows. I don’t have any regrets getting the pig lite/anvil head combo to get me through though.
@MPHReallyRightStuff how is the stability compared to a 34L? Is it significantly more stable? I really wanted to jump on this when I first heard about it but when I lay it out with a tape measure the collapsed length has me hesitating since I want my purchase to double as a photography tripod I can backpack. I do understand the marketed group is shooting specific.
Does the new "i" nomenclature mean the 34L will be offered as an inverted version eventually ?

If the Quick Column could be added to this, it may make a great second tripod for dedicated binocular or spotting scope use.
You prob already know this, but for others who don’t:
If you want the most stable tripod, don’t use a center column. It doesn’t matter for some applications, but it does for for critical ones.
A quick column for spotting/rear support then swapping to an anvil for mounted shooting is valid
It is more stable than the 34L at about the same height.

The tvc-22i, has the versa apex. So it will come with a platform installed that has a 3/8”-16 stud. So any ballhead will go on it. You can remove the platform and get the anvil 2 series platform adapter for a more secure fit with the anvil instead of just the typical threading it on. You can also put a 2 series center colum in its place or if you can find a 2 series leveling base that will fit in as well. Sorry for the confusion of the video.

Make sure you go over to the NF and Bighorn threads and remind everyone they are buying products from companies that have recently ripped off companies.

When I bought my leofoto, it was just a heavier carbon fiber tripod and a normal ballhead. They hadn’t started blatantly knocking off RRS like they started doing recently.
When was that? I never even heard of Leofrodo till well AFTER the RRS tripods came on the scene and unseated Manfrotto as King of precision rifle tripods.
Even then, the Feisols were the alternative. If we're going through PR history the leochinesefroto crap didn't pop up till after PVA started selling an OEM knockoff. But you had one before all that, is that it?
I haven't bought a NF in about ten years. I don't own a Bighorn RimX so take your silly rationalization and stroll down a short pier.

I can't convince myself I know the answer so I'll ask. Will the TA-4 leveling base I have attach to the competition tripod?
Just an FYI to all of you interested we started shipping them out yesterday. We do ship orders complete so if you are putting an Anvil on the order or the new bino adapter, your order will sit in backorder limbo for a bit. Easiest way is buying it separate if you already own a Anvil, or if you want to thread on any other ballhead that has a 3/8"-16 female threaded port underneath.

I’m fine with a company jumping on the carbon fiber bandwagon. But blatantly knocking your products off like the bases and ballheads is where I draw the line and will pay the extra for your stuff out of principle.
They started shipping yesterday, some today, and the rest on order will be Monday, then back in stock for a short amount of time.
I realize this is a bit of an open-ended question, contingent on a number of variables with angles to target, etc., but would the TVC-33 be more versatile with kneeling and seated position heights, as compared to the TVC-22i? (Occasional hunting without any *extreme* angles, but mostly PRS and rear support type stuff.)
The max heights in all positions with either model will appear to work fine for me (5'10") but it seems that the minimum height on the 22i in positions 1 and 2 are a bit too tall for kneeling or sitting with the rifle clamped in. (Again, I realize angle to target, ground etc., will affect this, but at least with the TVC-33, the height can be raised from the minimum if too short.)
I like the quicker deploy time of the 22i with the single collar and the inverted legs, but I'm heavily vacillating between the two and wondering if I'll be better served for overall usage with the 33? (Plan to have both the leveling base and anvil heads as well.)

Your right for shorter people on the 22i. But if you just open up one leg into the second angle position it should be good for much shorter people. This would be fast and easy in all matches except if the space was very tight like a bunker. In that case I would extend that longer leg to be directly back to me and just sit on that, so it doesnt take up extra room. You still may have enough angle with leveling bases to be good but itll be tight depending on target location.
