Rubber Butt Pad for MagPul PRS?

Re: Rubber Butt Pad for MagPul PRS?

i have never held one and looked at it, but you may have to buy a generic or basic pad, like pachmayr and fit it to the stock. now how to do that, i cant say without seeing the stock. have you tried to email magpul?

I really hope I'm not going to get stuck with a "Buy the new version." reply from MagPul. That would be terrible.

Re: Rubber Butt Pad for MagPul PRS?

The new version is not really padded either....

The only real padding I have ever seen on a PRS is the one that Bushmaster uses on their 50 cal that comes from the factory with a PRS. My only concern is that it would lengthen the LOP more than I would want personally. I don't think Bushy sells this separate, but it would be where I would start....

It's not so much that I want the rubber pad, it's that I want the damn black paint to stop chipping off and becoming silver every time I shoot at the range.

The "rubber" pad on the Gen II PRS is just a thin (<0.25") buttpad. It will save a little on your shoulder with higher recoiling calibers and it will keep the finish intact to an extent, but the finish on the aluminum buttplate that the pad is attached to still gets eaten up with regular use. I have several of them and if you shoot them, they get scuffed and chipped up...nature of the beast. Hell, getting them in and out of the safe gets them wear and tear.

Re: Rubber Butt Pad for MagPul PRS?

that or look in the phone book for a powder coating place close to you. harbor freight sells a basic kit but you can buy the powder. plus these days, i bet someone has a DIY on the internet. is duracoat a bake on coating?

Re: Rubber Butt Pad for MagPul PRS?

I tried to contact Magpul several times back in May on this very issue. When I finally got someone to respond via email, they (Justin) told me that I could simply order the Gen-II butplate assembly and install it on my Gen-I. I emailed them back to tell them I would like to do so on several occasions and have not heard anything back. Tried calling a couple times too but eventually got frustrated and quit (until just now since this thread brought it back up in my head).

The point is, Magpul told me they would sell the buttplate to upgrade the Gen-I to the Gen-II. If you could get ahold of them I would suggest going that route.

I did buy the Bushmaster version from Bushmaster for one of my PRS stocks. It's not listed on their site but if you call them they will sell you the whole assembly for something right around $300 shipped. It is long though. Prone it is perfect but a little long for offhand shooting. I'm 6'2" and it works for me but I have a buddly that's prolly 5"9" and it's too long for him.

BTW, I am in no way bashing Magpul. I have nothing but good things to say about Richard and Co. Richard was very generous and helpful to me and a few buddies when the PRS first came out to sell us a few PRS stocks for a commemerative rifle we were putting together to remember a buddy that was killed. That is the kind of thing one remembers and respects for a long time to come.

Anyway, I'm sure they are swamped and my one upgrade is not a normal order and they have higher priorities to get the gear in customers hands.

It can be, but I'd be using the overnight wait method. I can also buy the applicator, and the compressed air for it.

I contacted MagPul, fingers crossed on this one! I can still use the Duracoat for an upper receiver that came glossy that should of been matte, but I'd much prefer the rubber one due to waterproof coats being so slippery.

Thanks for the help so far guys. To Fredreded, I'll let you know if I can get up with them, but after all the "don't hold your breath" comments, I fear that may never come.

Re: Rubber Butt Pad for MagPul PRS?

I have one on order from 10/08 - that's right 2008. I keep calling them for a status on when they may be in but I always get "we haven't decided yet" on what version to make something to that effect. The one in the pic above comes on the Bushmaster .50cal. I'm interested to see what the GenII is and if it actually fits the AR PRS.

Gen II is just a rubber plate and some knob adjustments.

So, I'd just like to extend a huge thanks to Justin for getting me my stock upgrade kit. He got it out the same business day I sent him an email, so you know something's right with that.

MagPuls still the top dog in my opinion, and the customer service was way better than some let on. The kit is flawless, and was very easy to install. It took me less than four minutes with an allen wrench and a flathead screwdriver.

Thanks again Mr. Beard! Great product and customer support, even if some say otherwise.
