Just finished building a 6.5 x 284 on a Ruger American rifle. Very easy build and shoots .3 MOA. I would recommend this rifle to anyone for a build. On another note. I found the action to be more heavy duty than a Remington.

My m77 mark 2 is at the smith now. Order a broughton barrel and Mcmillian stock. I'm looking for bottom metal and read a post that pacific tool was going to start making them. I'm hoping for .3 moa! Nice work

I looked at a Ruger American Rifle today.
Really like the action. Three lug, fat bolt. Low bolt lift, light effort too. Solid top and Receiver looks pretty thick.
Really hate the stock and DBM.

Will consider buying one, when there is better DBM, stockmakers start inletting for it.

strikes me the Rem 783 will be easier to customize given the std Rem barrel lug. Not real high on it's stock either but it is fairly stiff

hope someone comes along and makes some stocks for it and a Metal trigger guard replacement

Looks like you could run a M700 type recoil lug, which would make the stock inlet simpler.
Wonder if the action screw spacing is similar to M700 or Savage?

Buy a $300 action and start throwing money at it........... Sounds like a plan!

Hi Rigmaster, I bought a Ruger American .243 a few months back, I'm also very interested in doing a custom barrel on it. I'd like a 26" 1 in 8 twist for precision long range. Who made your barrel? I'm a hands on kind of guy and really want to build this gun myself.Honestly I like the big barrel/original stock look yours has.
