Re: Ruger Gunsite Scout
I have some comments on the posted link, but having finally put a better scope on mine I can now say that it shoots reasonably well (sub-2 MOA) even with non-match ammo, and is a complete hoot with 180-grain subsonics and a can. So, for me, it works out like this with an added XS rail:
- peep sights for my plinking ammo and no suppressor - light, easy-handling,and fun.
- dot sight w/ QW rings in the scout position for the subsonics (the short barrel is great for subs)
- just ordered a Vortex (the Midway special) for mid-range (up to 600 yards or so) with the suppressor on
- a cheap 3-9 I had in the drawer will probably be used with the plinking ammo and no can zeroed for max point blank range, or perhaps with some deer loads if the '06 and 3 .270s aren't enough.
My wife and two teenage sons and I all really enjoy the rifle and the versatility afforded by swapping the stock flash hider for a YHM QD and the factory picatinny for the longer XS rail makes it effectively several rifles in one. Much easier to toss in the truck for whatever anyone feels like doing.
