Ruger precision 556 owners?

I am wanting one to go with my tikka 223. Am I missing anything here or should I just forget it and stick with tikka?

someone local has one for sale, but for $1200. I think that seems high but I’ve never seen one for sale.
Is it worth owning?

I’ve had a few 6.5 rpr’s and always liked them but I do love my tikkas. I have 3 now. The 223 is in a krg bravo. It’s slick as can be!
I just like the idea of the rpr in 223. I think it’s just a factory rifle. No extras. He hasn’t had any hits lol. Go figure.

I had a 6.5 RPR and it was awesome. Haven't heard as many great things about the 5.56

I much prefer Tikka Varmint .223 as it's my favorite bolt gun ever (even over AI AT), so I'm biased. Mine is currently in a Bravo but I had no issues with the factory stock. It was the factory mags not taking longer bullets that swapped me over.

The stock still sucks

Its probably gonna be $1k
Thats a t3x lite AND a prefit barrel money wise

What white bullets are you shooting with the seven twist? My tikka 223 8 twist runs 77smk very accurate to 700 yards. I have some Hornady 73 gr eld that I have not tried yet

75 and 77gr solids

Yeah an 8 twist is gonna work. But id I had the choice I'd pick a 7

If we're talking merely budget I was more saying you could build a tikka with a new barrel for less than a used RPR

I have one. Paid $900 with 4 mags. Had been shot but not much. I had Gre-Tan bush the firing pin as I had a few pierced primers with Federal 205M's. Completely cured that issue. Seems be a common problem with these in .223. Everything else stock except for a adjustable bag rider. Stock barrel is a 7 twist but only 20". I load 80.5g Bergers with H4895, there going 2890 fps. It has what I call a 3 stage trigger with the creep. Trigger tech is coming out with triggers for the RPR's. Will probably get one if I keep it. I get about .5 moa out of it for 5 shots. A little more economical to shoot than my 6.5's and easier to find bullets. May re- barrel some day with a longer barrel , maybe 24-26".

I wish I had stocked up on heavier bullets before covid and elections but I had like 1400 of the 77 smk and they ended up shooting good seated longer than ar mag length so that’s what I run.
I’ll pass on the rpr, I think to scratch my itch, I’ll just get the enclosed forend for my bravo so it’ll look more like a rpr

Have you ever had a rifle that you knew you shouldn’t like or keep or put any money into but you did anyway because deep down you really loved it? That is the RPR 556 for me.

The fact that they cratered the shit out of primers and Ruger basically pulled the plug on them because they weren’t worth the hassle makes them that much cooler to me.

But in reality, it also offers a lot that other factory rifles simply don’t - good aftermarket support, the right twist and chamber for heavy bullets, full chassis modularity and adjustability, etc. Not to mention, I could buy like 4 of them for how much I have invested in my custom .223, it shoots the same as my custom, and since getting the bolt bushed it’s been 100% problem free. It’s one of those weird things that you probably wouldn’t recommend to someone just getting into it because there are better options available, but anyone that shoots it ends up wanting one.

Exactly! Bought mine cheap enough I could not pass it up. Probably makes it to the range as much as any rifle I own

My dad has one, and it shoots Hornady Frontier 55 gr awesome. Usually groups just under an inch with 4 landing in or around half inch. Sure is a fun, stable gun for bench shooting.

Neither of mine have pierced primers and shoot any of my service rifle loads just fine. Mine are keepers.
