Ruger RPR vs Tikka T3 Tac A1

Ive been debating between these two. The RPR can be purchased for roughly $1100 and the Tikka $1650.

Anyone here have any input on which route to go? Ive seen plenty of people with the tikka printing .35-.5" groups all the way out to 1100 yards. Also seems that the fit/finish is slightly better on the Tikka

just bought that 6mm. I can sell/swap out the barrel for 6.5 on ebay with a hour or two of labor and have a rifle at half the cost of the tikka. Good call guys

tikka CTR in 24" 6.5 CM and chassis of choice. sell original stock and mags. could be in for less than even the 6CM RPR if you get good deals. and there are tons to have here if you have patience

I recently purchased a 6 creed rpr from grabagun and its a good shooter. The bolt is much rougher than the tikka and the trigger isn't quite as nice as the tikka but it's very accurate. For the price you get a lot of value imo.

Tikka all day every day. For getting the RPR to shoot like the Tac A1 you need to change the barrel and the trigger and even though the action will never cycle as the Tikka do.

I had a RPR in 6.5. It was accurate, but just felt cheap. Sold it after a few hundred rounds. I now have 2 Tikkas. You know where my vote goes.

I went the Tikka CTR route and then chassis of choice over the RPR. No regrets there but I gotta say for me the biggest deciding factor was CTR I could get the 24” 6.5 in stainless as I wanted to you the rifle for hunting here in Alaska as well. The RPR is great no doubt but i have also bought 3 more Tikkas since buying the CTR. Like having all Remington clones and such, it is nice that all the parts are interchangeable between all the Tikkas. Triggers, bolt knobs, shrouds, chassis, rails.

And Tikka owners aren’t? This is really just another 9mm v .45 argument. Get what YOU like and want. They are both great production rifles each with their own advantages and disadvantages. My only real negative on the Tikka is the cost of the magazines.

I have no doubts the tikka is a better quality rifle. The question is it worth 2x the price. I can sell the 6mm barrel and put in a PROOF barrel and still have the build be under 1200 or factory barrel and keep it around $900. So its essentially $500-700ish more for the tikka.

Don’t run either , but from what I see at around the place the Tikka stomps the RPR .
I’ve seen trigger failures , Friday afternoon barrels , and generally poor machining on
quite a few RPRs . Zero issues on any of the Tikkas I’ve seen .

I have had 2 RPR's and no Tikka's, both RPR's shot lights out sub .5 moa. There is just no quality in the RPR.

I was in the same boat. After holding the RPR, I bought the Tikka. Would still do the same today. The fit and finish on the Tikka is outstanding. The Ruger felt cheap and the one I held had the barrel/rail out of alignment. Just like every other nice gun, or thing, I've bought, I've long forgot the price and love the quality every time I pick it up.

There was a brand new Tac1 yesterday posted here for $1400 shipped to your FFL w/ Atlas bipod and rail adapter. It lasted about 5 minutes.

What kind of accuracy are you seeing

I shot 4 10 round groups .5" .650" .75" and 1.2" not sure what happened on that last group I had a flyer and I don't think it was me. My load is a 22-250 case ran through a 6 creed die and loaded with 40.4 gr of ramshot hunter thrown with a lee perfect powder measure<lol yeah I know. Sierra 95gr tipped matchking fed 210m primer. I only have 75 shots down the barrel and it's been cleaned once. I would rate it as very good accuracy comparable to any other factory rifle.

I am really surprised at all the tikka lovers on this thread. I have a tikka ctr that shoots really well and I do like the action and the trigger. But the tikka chassis rifle is twice the price of the 6 creed rpr I got from grabagun. The rpr is a great value right out of the box imo. The tikka t3 Tac A1 I have never had my hands on. I like the rpr adjustability for fitting a youth shooter. It goes all the way down to 12" lop and the way it is designed the shooter doesn't have to worry about the bolt hitting them in the face when the action is worked.

I have a tikka CTR in 260 AI running a Bartlin Barrel and a B&C Target/ Competition stock running the CTR bottom metal. I like it over the RPR But only Slightly. The Bolt on the tikka is way smoother, and the I like the factory CTR trigger way better. But I feel more at home behind a RPR because I started shooting long range with gas guns, so the inline setup feels more natural to me. CTR mags are just a little bit more in price that AI mags, but I would never switch my CTR to AI mags as the CTR mags are shorter in length for the 10 RND mags. I do like the fact you can do barrels at home for the RPR verse having to send my CTR off to a smith. The factory Tikka CTR stock is just fine. The guy I traded for my TIKKA shot it in the factory stock for the longest time and it shot just as good as it shot in the B&C. I wouldn't sell my tikka for a RPR. And my nod goes to the TIKKA CTR or TAC A1 if you have the cash. But the RPR will shot just as well from what I have seen.

To be fair on the RPR, there is a lot more you can do in your garage with basic tools. Barrel change, handguard change, you've got a ton of customization choices. If you want something to make your own buy the RPR, just look for a Gen2. I haven't seen a gen 2 with a canted rail yet, not that it matters other than asthetics because you'll have a scope on it anyway. Plus you can run any mags you want in it. Please note that I do not own one but I've shot a few.

I have owned several tikkas and still have my CTR in a KRG chassis. It is very accurate, but no more accurate than an RPR with a good barrel. Both have 60° bolts etc but the Tikka mags are $$$ which is why I went with the KRG chassis to use my pile of AICS mags. The Ruger has it's flaws but it has the aftermarket to support it. Both are good choices depending on how much time, effort and money you want to spend on it.

I chose the Tikka TAC A1. I was having the same debate about which to go with because $800 for an RPR is a smoking deal.

If they were the same price? I would have picked the Tikka easily.

At $700 more? I still picked the Tikka. My third mag is on the way from Beretta.

The Tikka is done out of the box. Quality at every turn. I won’t miss the $700 in a year or a month when I am enjoying the Tikka.

I have shot an RPR and think it’s a good rifle and great value, but I wanted the Tikka more.

If you go with a barrel nut, you can swap barrels on a Tikka pretty fast. I have a 20" CTR 6.5 barrel and a 23.5" medium Bartlein that I can swap in 10-20 minutes. You can do the same with a TAC A1.

Problems officially solved/concluded. Called up GrabAGun to see about switching my order up and they offered me the Tikka T3 Tac A1 in 6.5 for $1500 out the door including the shipping. That was a no brainer - figured i would end up around $1300-1400 by the time i swapped out barrels and fiddled with the RPR

Best of luck with your TAC A1. I got one for a little more $US1600. But with all the furniture you get with the Tikka it adds up. Extra mags, muzzle break, sling options, hardware at bottom of the stock it seemed like a good value. Problem was new out of the box the stock was crapolla. I called Beretta and got shipping a shipping label to send it back. It was delivered to Beretta yesterday and their site said I would get an email to confirm; but so far nothing. I sent an email asking about it with no answer. In another forum someone mentioned it took six weeks for Beretta to fix their TAC; problem was mag falling out on recoil. Beretta did not return the mag and it took five months to straighten that out. Found a place on the Beretta site where they said normal turnaround time was 4-5 weeks. In the CRT 24" ss barrel in Creedmoor. Bold and trigger were not as smooth as the TAC, but it is nice. Took it to the range for the first time shooting off hand with a low end Nikon 233 and el cheapo SB ammo in gusting wind. Results in the pix below. Have to say it is a keeper. Wondering if I should have simply returned the TAC and got one that was good out of the box. I have seen multiple posts about faulty mag release and stock issues. Problem is if you try and fix this by yourself warranty is voided. It is a lot easier to get and install new furniture on the RPR. You simply risk no warranty on the Tikka and I am not sure how easy it is. My take is the Tikka is a much better choice than anything else and is a great bang for the buck; as long as you don't get a lemon.

Tikka is a good rifle as is the Ruger I shoot both and like both. My Tikka is just a t3x ctr though.

Own an original Tikka T3 Tactical with metric 24" barrel, 18-1 thread and swell near muzzle for proper harmonics when suppressed. Beretta USA took over imports and started putting out 20" and discontinued the 24". Then along came CTR...not a bad platform but not a Tactical. Tikka goes mainstream and markets to hunting crowd. Bought a TRG 42 and put T3Tac away for a rainy day. 502 rds on the original barrel.

Just received my T3x Tac A1 with 24" barrel in .308. Finished it off with a Nightforce NXS and Harris. Tikka will start getting my business again...despite Beretta USA's attempts to ruin the brand. Like the others said before this rifle is ready to shoot right out of the box.

Kudos to Ruger and Savage for helping chassis rifles gain acceptance...but folks like Tikka/Sako are leaving them in the dust. Save up the couch change and go with a Tikka...you won't regret it. Just my 2 pennies.

Don’t own one. But notice I never said one is better than the other. But when I can buy a pmag for 17 bucks and a tikka mag for 65 that’s a negative. Period. But the Ruger leaves a lot on the table in terms of refinement. But both guns shoot.

The Tikka mag dropping out on recoil is a 5 second fix with a flat blade screwdriver on the detent for the mag catch. From what I have seen on the stock being loose, all you need are basic AR tools to remove the stock and tighten a bolt.

I did not. I would rather take care of it myself than wait a week or 6 weeks for them to take care of it. I have 3 CTR mags that I tweaked the tab for the mag catch on.

The stock wobble only takes an AR armorer's wrench. I would rather spend $15-50 on one than have to wait on any factory's warranty department.

I would rather keep the warranty in force. But that's just me. If you are willing to void the warranty after the CS guy says doing what you suggest will void the warranty feel free to do that.

I suspect you will like the OEM 2 stage trigger.
