Re: accuracy issues vary rifle to rifle. It would be worth having the barrel recrowned. Do it by single point cutting an 11* crown, DO NOT use a 45 or 60* chamfer. Most all AR barrels would benefit from that type of crown.

I'm not concerned about the path of the gas but making the crown perfect. If a crown tool with a pilot is used it only has to be off 1 thou to make the exit edge higher on one side than the other, that will throw bullets.
The second part of that is using that type of tool create burrs. The whole side of the land is cut at one time so burrs are folded over to the side of the lands. The 45-60 degree drop in crown used on ARs is the worst crown you can put on a barrel because of how easy it is to make an alignment mistake and the burrs.
A completely flat crown cut by single point, starting in the center of the bore and moving along the X axis outward at a slow feed rate is the most precise way to cut a perfect crown. Even if the barrel is not indicated perfectly it will still cut a flat crown with no burrs for a clean bullet exit. The 11 degree angle isn't enough to make a difference in the quality of the cut.
My father was a benchrest shooter, He taught me to recrown his barrels in the 70s and all the barrels I produced up until I retired in 2017 were cut that way.
First pic differences in crowns, second pic is 11 degree crowning tool which will cut a sharp edge crown but can make burrs and fold them over to the side of the lands. The best way is with a carbide single point tool in a lathe.

I took my Sfar out today to try grouping Hornady precision hunter 178 eldx.
The best group I could get was about 5 inches at 100 yards with five shots. I was hoping for at least MOA accuracy with this expensive Ammo.

Yeah it’s odd how much of a difference there can be between ammo. I’ve had no luck with factory but got my loads down to 3/4 moa. Never had such a fussy rifle!

I’m not a patient person at all when it comes to picky rifles. I could deal with 1-1.5 moa with good factory ammo. I know I can improve with my handloads most of the time.
I called the guy I got the Sfar from and he wanted it back at the same price I bought it for. Sold it back to him and went and picked up an sig cross after shooting my friends cross today.
