I'm so upset.

Had my kimber pro carry 2 with CT since February and my ultra tle CT since last month and they're both rustiing EVERYWHERE! I clean them after every 200 rounds and oil them generously. They're stored in a gun safe in el paso so moisture shouldn't be an issue. I'm using hopps #9

I searched about it and there's countless posts of this issue yet kimber told me that it's not a known issue and I'm not caring for my firearms. I've had 30 or so firearms and never have experienced rust.

It's a light coat of rust mostly on the slide and barrel. It's so light it usually just wipes off with a dry rag. But there are stains on the hammer and barrel.

Should I be using something else to clean them? Any advice?

Kimbers are notorious for rust. They use a high-carbon steel for their barrels. Dip it, strip it, hard chrome or NP3 everything, and go to a stainless barrel? If you do that, you might as well upgrade its controls and guts, too.

You can try some of Birchwood Casey's fingerprint remover or if you can find it the older name was called Stealth. I have used it on a few guns that seem to rust easily. The stuff bonds to metal and seem to prevent rust fairly well. Just an idea!

Re: Rust on both of my kimber 1911s

There are several on-line rust-inhibitor tests where a guy in FL took identical steel plates (in the white) and subjected them to salt bath and Florida humidity. The finest rust inhibitor seems to be the product called Eezox. It claims to be a 3-in-1 (cleaner, lube, rust protectant), but I don't know anything about that.

I've had good success with it on 1 Kimber (daily carry IWB in Oregon - some humidity, but not like FL) and on lots of knives. I typically use a lube like WeaponShield on my firearms.

one of my kimber's looks great in hard chrome..not rust problems and I live in the butt hole of the world MS.

My old Kimber Classic Gold match does not suffer from rust. But every time I about to have it hard chromed one of my sons in college need money..LOL

Re: Rust on both of my kimber 1911s

Supposedly the barrel in one of my Kimbers is stainless steel, but on the one occasion I cleaned it off entirely, my fingerprints could be clearly read off of the rust stains that formed within a week. My other Kimber (also a Custom Shop model) is listed as having a carbon steel barrel according to Kimber's spec sheet, but it's never shown a single sign of corrosion despite being a daily carry piece that's drenched in sweat and salt water. Go figure.

Re: Rust on both of my kimber 1911s

I worked a Custom II up from a beat up used gun into a nice shooter. Rust was an issue that was taken care of by Cerakote and having the internals and barrel polished. Once the barrel was machine polished I had no more rust issues.

Re: Rust on both of my kimber 1911s

I take issue with MS being the butt hole of the world. I've been to many with greater bragging rights. When "steel-wooling" your piece...remember that the garden variety steel wool will deposit tiny shards into rugosities in the pistol steel and will rust also. Bronze wool won't. Eezox is your friend. JMHO

Re: Rust on both of my kimber 1911s

+1 on what Former says about the steel wool. Never use steel wool made from carbon steel. It will deposit micro finds on the surface you polish and will potentially rust even quicker.
If you are going to use something like that, make sure it is made from stainless steel or bronze. You can find it in those materials in marine supply stores.
