I have the opportunity to purchase a Schmidt & Bender 10x42 PMII for a discount through work, and would like to get some opinions on this optic beforehand. I've done a little shooting with other larger, more powerful S&B's - and while they seemed awesome compared to my Leupold and Nightforce experiences I didn't have to pay for them.

The scope would be mounted on a Stery SSG PIV and would be a general purpose rig, if it helps. Any and all experienced opinions welcome - and thanks in advance.

Clint

(PS: Tried "search" but was not able to come up with much on this particular model; admittedly I'm not the best at the internetz.)

PM Trilogymac for his opinion, he's got one or two and refuses to sell them to me, so I'd say they are top notch!

Just missed one on the SWFA samplelist! IMO, if a straight 10x
will work in your application, the PMII is the scope to buy. I look for them slightly used but not abused. $1300-$1400. Have 2 and
Jason better beat me to the next one.

Hope this helps,

Smart man for two reasons. First being you ask about an optic before you buy it where alot of people come on here and say "I just bought X, how is it?"

Second, is that you are looking at buying a S&B scope. Excellent optic. Just make sure you get it with matching knobs and reticle.

This one always kills me. "Just ordered an XYZ, what do you all think of them?"

As Rob said, you've done good in asking and Bill confirms that you'll be happy with it. I'd love to find a good deal on one or two for sure.

Re: S&B 10x42 PMII input please

I've owned a S&B 10x42mm PMII. The image quality was slightly worse than a MST-100 that I owned at the same time. The S&B has a fixed focus that is set for 300m ("parallax free" distance). I sent mine back to S&B to have it adjusted for 150m. IMO, 10x scopes need to have a side parallax adjustment or an adjustable objective (AO). Without it, I wouldn't own another one and have been using USO ST-10s with EREK, ERGO, and a better reticle than a mil dot.

The lack of a parallax adjustment is what has steered me away from the S&B. Currently I am looking at getting an ST-10 that is almost identically speced to yours Jack.

Trilogymac, have you felt handicapped by the fixed parallax?

Re: S&B 10x42 PMII input please

It is an awesome scope!! The parallax has never been an issue for me - the scope has performed flawlessly.

If you're getting a good deal - jump all over it.

I had the exact opposite experience.
I had an ST10 and now have a S&B 10x42. When I compared them at the same time, the glass on the S&B was definitely better than the ST10. The color on the S&B was a lot better and so was the edge sharpness. The S&B also had far superior clicks (sharp and distinct) on the knobs over the ST-10.

Agreed that the lack of parallax adjustment sucks!

Re: S&B 10x42 PMII input please

What he said, the longest I used mine was 635yds 0 issue/w parralax, cliks were perfect not matching, but tracked great, I wish I never got rid of it because I got a good deal on it, I would still get a USO over it it if I had to pay $for$ without question ST-10 Best value PERIOD!!!!!!!!

Someday if I win the lottery I will get one. If its a good deal, its a great scope!

Two years ago I would have said the same thing.

And I sure as hell didn't win the lottery. Where there's a WILL there's a WAY!!

There are a lot of ways in our sport to creativity raise a few bucks at a time until you've saved/bought/sold/traded your way into whatever you set your mind to!!

Re: S&B 10x42 PMII input please

Appreciate all the responses so far - some good info to consider!

I have been curious about the non-adjustable parallax issue that some of you have pointed out, especially since I rarely find anywhere to shoot past 300m - in fact most of the time I'm at 150 or less, so that is a consideration. Or is it?

Anyway thanks again and stay safe,
Clint

You can see about 3/8" parallax at 100. If your cheek weld is consistent, you will still shoot little groups. I use it to 600yards and don't feel handycapped. The simplicity is a plus to me.

Scope is every bit as clear as my 4-16x42 and brighter at 10x.
Hope this helps.
