I em going to buy a S&B 3x12 50 pm scope tomorow which reticle is the preferd one P4 or P4 fin. I had the night force F1 with the MLR reticle and I could not see the reticle hash marks under the maximum power of 15X.My question would be to any one who ownes a S&B PM scope with a P4 or P4 fine reticle and if they can see the hash marks clear at the lower power seatings.

Re: S&B 4p 4p fine

I have that very scope with the the P4fine. I just stepped out the door and checked it out, the hash marks are very visible down to 5 power, below that they get a bit thin.I dont own a P4 but have shot them and personally feel the reticle is a bit on the heavy side.

What is the primary application?

Re: S&B 4p 4p fine

I am looking out of my S&B P4F 4x16-42 right now and the sun is about to set. My eyes can read the hash marks from 6 power on up. I do most of my shooting at about 10 power and it looks great. Not to heavy and not to light. If your doing most of your shooting at 4-8 power than get a the P4. If its the other way around then probably the P4F. Some of the pictures of the P4F floating around are totally false. The P4F does not show up well in the pics that I have seen. I have looked through both and would be happy with either. If the P4 doesnt appear to cluttered for your eyes than it may be a good choice. The P4 covers to much of the target for my eyes. Other guys swear by it so it must come down to personal preference. By the way I wear glasses and my vision sucks and the P4F works well. By the way, most of scopes in the class your looking at are not optimized for the lowest power. Even the P4 and GEN II look dinky at the lower powers.

Do you belive that it is easser to see the 4p reticle at all power ranges then the 4p fine. When you say that it cowers to much of the targer at what range and size of target do you mean.

Re: S&B 4p 4p fine

Had a bad experianc with nightforce F1 scope and i don know if the S&B will be the same. The F1 reticle was only usable in the 15X power hope the S&B will hawe a wider power ban use.

I just got this scope last week and put it on our new McMilian .308 system and we agree with your reticle statements. A superb optic to say the least!!
