Hey There,

First post on the Hide for me,

Just purchased my first OBR 7.62 w/18 inch barrel. Mainly for the purpose of long rang shooting (800M-1000m+), fine tuning my skills on an AR platform and of course because the OBR looks like one fine piece of equipment. My other rifles are all bolt action as well. I currently have 2 scopes 1 Leupold and the other a USO which work perfect for the distance that I currently shoot.

My intent in the future is to move up to a .300WM or 338 Lapua, will the S&B 5-25X56 be an overkill for the rifles the I have now? Or should I hold off and wait until I can shoot a bigger round? The only reason I want to buy the S&B now is because I have the money for a rifle and a scope. But if the scope is an overkill for the .308 then I might just have to hold off.

Not overkill. If you can afford it then get it, you will not regret it. On the plus side if you do regret it you can very quickly resale it.

Not overkill at all. Use one on my GAP-10 with a 20" barrel. Also on my .308, .243, 6.5 Creedmoor and 300WM. You don't have to have a .338 to use that scope. It's a great match scope. Parallax down to 10 meters, great power range and reticle choices as well. My favorite is the H2CMR.

Thanks for the input, pretty much confirmed my gut feeling, and that is, S&B goes on any rifle out there and its never a bad buy.

Thanks again, only person who disagreed was the wife

No it's not

And the wife will find something to be mad at you about soon enough and forget about the scope LOL

What isn't overkill about a S&B?!

They are excellent scopes. Top Notch for a reason.... The engineering and glass quality. Never hurts to treat yourself and go with the best optic out there...

Due to strict gun regulations in England, <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">"Airgun Field Target"</span></span> competitions have been popular there for decades, and PMII 5-25X[56mm] and March scopes are no strangers to those competitions. And S & B's aren't even overkill on a loved .22 either.

I struggled w/ the decision too. After reading all I could find and trading several PM's w/ Rob01 (Rob is super nice, patient and willing to help...thanks again Rob), I pulled the trigger on an S&B for my GAP .308. There was a little anxiety (actually a lot) as this is a chunk of change. I was thinking its only a .308. I should get something else. There was NO buyers remorse after I got her mounted and took her to the range. Wow, what a great optic. Glass is as good as they say and magnification past 15x is sweet. Parallax down to 10 meters. The H2CMR reticle is pretty cool. When I was zeroing, I used the reticle to measure bullet impact to poa and then made corrections. The .1 mil hash marks are very useful. I can only shoot out to 300, but the 4" clay targets someone left on the berm at 325 didn't stand a chance

I'm looking forward to learning how to shoot LR with this rig. Even if I change to a different caliber down the road, there will be no need to upgrade my optic. Buy right - cry once.

I'd check Euro Optics, Sport Optics and Mile High. All vendors here on the hide.

Re: S&B 5-25X56 PMII, overkill?

I owned the P4 version and it was overkill for me, longest shots were 500 meters and that was super easy, If you have they $$$ get it. you will not regret it, it is overkill for under 100yards maybe even 200 but then again there is nothing you can miss within that range with such a hellavan optic! IMHO I think they are the best in the business..

Mile High has one with a Klein reticle in stock. I've asked them to see if I can get one with an MSR. My fear is that they can do it but at 44 yoa I will not live long enough to get it.
