Hi

Does anyone know if there are any major drawbacks for opting for the cheaper S&B Classic over the PMII??

I know the 34mm tube is a big one but i dont shoot that far anyway and at most its going on a .223 or a 17hmr maybe sometimes.

I have no need for tactical turrets and they can be fitted later anyway if i wanted them.

Id be saving about $660 by going for the Varmint Classic over the PMII.

What you think?

I recommend spending the extra $660 if for no other reason than if you decide to try something else, you'll be able to get a fair portion of your money back with a PMII. I haven't seen the Classics do too well on here.

On an unrelated note...fill in your location in your profile so you can receive geographically relevant advice.

You are paying $2700US for new S & Bs? Great deal.

The classic has NO elevation. I bought one because they are lighter and it was a hunting rifle, only to find out it has like a total of 14 minutes of elevation. After I set my 100 yard zero I had like 6 minutes left. Awesome scope but take that into consideration. PMII has plenty I don't know if you're dialing on the rifle you want to use it on.

i owned a PH2 before and that didnt have much elevation either i was supprised it only turned 3/4 the way around.

maybe the Pm2 is the way to go.

now i dunno if 4-16 is the one or the 5-25!

The 3-12x Classic is not really a good tactical scope, mainly because of the limited elevation. You will have a hard time selling one when you want another scope. I just bought a new 1.5-6x Classic, but it has more elevation and can be used with a 20 MOA base, unlike its 3-12x brother. Go for a PMII (34mm tube) in that magnification.
