Rifle Scopes S&B H2CMR reticle pic

Well my S&B 5-25x56 came in last Friday just before leaving for the BHTC match so i finally got to mounting it today and while the outside looks like any other 5-25x the reticle is the new H2CMR and I figured I would take a pic for those wanting to see it. Warning....I suck at through the scope pics so don't hold it against the scope as the pic was taken out of focus through a screen at my neighbors house LOL When I get to the range to zero I will try to take some at 400 yards on the steel the same as I did for the P4F to compare them.

Some reticle info:
The hollow dots are 1 mil
the horizontal hashmarks are .2 mils
The larger vertical hashmarks are .5 mils
Between 2 and 3 mils vertical there are .1 mil marks
Lines out on the heavier duplex are 1 mil
Also the whole reticle out to the heavier duplex(5 mils) illuminates.

Well at least now i know someone else that is running the h2cmr, i love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything. through the scope pics are tough rob but you got the important part which is the reticle, damn near everyone knows the s&b glass is incredible.

Rob,

That looks very interesting. I really like how it subtends a finer amount between the mil marks from the P4F.

One question through. From the center of each 1 mil mark to the edge (the radius), is that .1mil?

Also, what is the thickness of the crosshair? How does that compare to the P4F?

I think the only thing its missing is a holdover Christmas tree below the center cross hair. Don't know if S&B is taking feedback, but hollow dots or cross hatches down the line would be nice (not too obtrusive like on the Horus).

No problem guys. Figured some would like to see an actual picture as the drawings around didn't do the reticle justice from what I saw at SHOT. When I get to the range I will try to take some more pics.

Matt, the reticle is pretty set the way it is. I never had any troubles with holds and my P4F so don't see any troubles here either. Some like the christmas trees but I have never had a need for them.

Yes the dots are .2 mil in size so from center to the edges would be one mil.

The reticle thickness appears to be very similar to the P4F and is speced to be the same. I will know more when I make it to the range. Hopefully Saturday morning.

Looks very interesting, it definitely does not look as busy in that photo compared to the computer images posted. I have always preferred a Gen II mildot scope compared to a mil hash, this looks to be an improvement on the older Gen II design, plus I really like the open mildots. I was thinking of getting a Klein when the the 3-20X start shipping but now I don't know, thanks Rob!

wow that looks busy and over-thought. perhaps we are starting to see the boundaries of what is functional and practical being reached when it comes to reticles ? i mean, how many variations of a reticle can or should there be ? I'm sure it is well made and great for someone but does it add a lot over what's come before ?...just asking...

From what I was told it was designed by two gentleman both with the last name starting with H, hnce the H2, who knew a few things about combat shooting so I think they wouldn't make something that wasn't useful. Might not be for some and thats why they have the Klein or P4F as well but I see some good uses in this scope. First for using it on movers you will have a much more precise aiming poing with the .2 mil marks on the horizontal. Same goes for wind holds. Or even ranging. No need to go out to the edges to range down to .2 mils.

With the .1 mil marks on the vertical it will allow you to break down the reticle when ranging to .05mils which will allow you to be more accurate in your range.

Like I said it might not be for everyone but it's less busy then some already on the market with more benefit than detriment in my opinion.

I am by no means an expert and strictly a competitive shooter (no 2 way ranges for this guy, god bless our soldiers for that), but i can say i absolutely love this reticle and the .2mil subtensions are very helpful for precise wind holds also the it is much easier to reticle range. Plus the p4f which is great only the center illuminates whereas the h2cmr the whole thing illuminates.

Could i use a basic mildot effectively sure, does the h2cmr make me more confident and precise. yes sir it does so there is benefit to at least some of us over other reticles.

Sorry it took so long but I finally got out to zero my 5-25x with the H2CMR and took some pics on 25, 20, 15, 10 and 5x. The overall appearance of the reticle is basically the same as the P4F as far as thickness. It's a very usable reticle and even down to 5x as you can see from the pics. The dots help to make it easier to see.

I will go down from 25x to 5x showing the H2CMR first and then the P4F pic so you can compare. It's out to 400 yards and the round steel is 8" for anyone who didn't see the other pictures. And again don't hold the image against the scope as I suck at taking through the scope pics.

I came very close to ordering an F1 MLR2, but decided to pick up a used NF. A used NF will bring the price of a used NF whether or not one person has used it or two, providing its not damaged. I figure when I save up the extra change, I'll sell the NF and get an S&B, this way I have a scope for the next 6-8 months I would be saving.

Are they offering the MSR reticle to US civilian buyers yet? I really like the way the H2CMR is set up, but still leaning towards the MSR.

Last I heard the MSR is available but at a $200 up charge over the standard reticles.

I got behind the H2CMR last weekend on a 5-25 S&B. I'm not sure what I think yet. My very first quick instinct was that it's chaotic - not busy, just . . . weird. It's probably a great reticle, but I think it's something that you have to learn to love and use.

Field of view looks smaller at 5x or diff zoom setting on camera?
On 15x the reticle looks blue?
Can you take pic's with it illuminated?
Just one more the open center of dot =.2mil & the outside edges =.4mil

You know what, after I read your post above about the 0.1 mil hashes on the vertical stadia and then saw it on the reticle, I feel like the H2CMR is a no brainer. I don't think the MSR offers any significant milling advantages for ranging now, and the H2CMR is way less busy. The H2CMR also has a much better set up for wind holds with the 0.2 mil hash marks on the horizontal stadia lines. Thanks for the pics of the reticle Rob, made my choice much easier

Tipper, as I stated I suck at through the scope pics. Both scopes are crystal clear in sight picture and the same as far as field of view. The pics were only taken to show the reticle. I tried to take a pic of it illuminated but couldn't get the camera to work.

The reticle does illuminate out to the heavier duplex so all the mil area is illuminated.

This reticle is a work of art! Thanks to your photos Rob I purchased a 5-25 with a H2CMR can't wait to get it. It seems like I'll be able to squeeze a lot of accuracy out of the H2CMR.

Still love it. Been using it in matches and the set up of the reticle is perfect for wind and mover holds and ranging.

I am still waiting for my 3-20 because I want the H2CMR. Could have gotten one with a P4F but don't want it.

I'm going through the pain and fun of a scope decision. I think I like the 3-20 now but was planning on the p4f. What does the H2CMR stand for? I read two designers with names that begin with "H" but what about the CMR?

I sold all of my P4F S&B's and replaced them with H2CMR versions.
Cheaper to sell them instead of dealing with the reticle change

I have the h2cmr in mine and I love it. It makes wind holds easy and the hash marks are small enough to not be in the way. I looked thru every retical I could before buying mine. I knew it was the one as soon as I saw it.

The last scope I bought was the Tasco that came on my 10/22 30 years ago. I was worried about all the voodoo and secrecy expressed by the subtension sheets of the various reticles.

I sighted in my rifle with an H2CMR a week ago and it took two shots. For me the reticle is just easy to read and understand.

Rob in your op you say the large vertical marks are .5mil. Im looking in my book as i have just bought the exact same scope and mine is showing .4mil? Im just trying to figure out the reticle. As for the hollow dots the book shows .2 edge to edge. What is the inside of the hole edge to edge?

.4mil from outside edge of circle to vertical hash mark. Its .5mil from center of circle to vertical hash mark.

Not sure on the center of the dot but if I had to guess I would say about .1 or so but it's really not an area where you do anything. Holds will be on the bottom outer edge of the circle, center or top outer edge as those are the known .1 mil areas.

I cant wait, my H2CMR should be here this month and the P4F will be going on the 22lr. I do like the P4F but it sucks in light switching wind with a 308 out to 1K with a MOAish target, or maybe I should say I suck with it. I am hoping the H2CMR helps me refine my wind holds, thats why I got it.

I have the S&B 3-20 H2CMR on one of my AW rifles. Just got the scope on and the new barrel in so have not gotten to take it out past 100 yards (barrel break-in). Compared to the P4f, I think it is going to be better for fine wind adjustments but I wish I had gone with the 5-25 instead.
