Hello,

I am a lurker who just tries to learn.

I have a S&B PM-II I have been casually using for a few years. The scope did come with a "killSHADE". I am not currently using it. I can't recall if this model of S&B came with a sunshade? I went looking in the box and can't seem to find one, so perhaps I had it confused with another scope? Am I mistaken?

For those who use their S&Bs, do you use the killSHADE? I did a search and it appears some people experience some light-loss (other makes of scopes) and some don't.

Does the make of the shade make a difference? Mine came with the scope and I purchased it from a dealer here 3+ years ago.

My thoughts are to use it since it will afford another level of protection to the glass. I recently was in the field and got a drop of sweat on the eye-piece for the first time. So the thought is there.

I use an Eagle scope cover. If the scope with killSHADE won't fit, I assume Eagle makes longer scope covers I can order?

And yes, those reading this thread thinking "This dude is in way over his head", well...you nailed it. I barely tread water on this forum.

Greyson - I am not familiar with the term you are using. Are you discussing an extension that goes on the eye piece end or the objective end?

If objective - these are typically sunshades that are between 2 and 4 inches long and yes under some conditions they can help.

If it is an ARD - looks like a honey comb filter - that is to reduce the change of glint or glare coming off of the objective end so the the shooter has less chance of being spotted.

Sometimes the ARD is combined with the Sunshade. Good ARDS do not result in a significant loss of light transmission.

If you have a shade with an ARD (made by USO) and you are not interested in it - post it for sale. It will go in a matter of hours.

If you are talking about the eye piece end - are you talking about a rubber boot?

Good luck

Re: S&B PM-II 3-12 MTC GEN II Sunshade?

My apologizes. The objective end. I just grabbed the S&B box and inside is a product called "killFLASH" Anti-Reflective Device. HAHA! The ARD you are referring to. Yes, it is honey-combed.

My reference to the eye-piece was just a personal experience.

It is made by a company called Tenebraex Corporation. www.camouflage.com.

50SBC-ARD 6650-01-509-4073

So this product shouldn't cause any degradation to my viewing experience? Is there a downside to a civilian running an ARD?

Well...I have the ard screwed on the S&B. Now...my butler creek cap is just a hair loosey-goosey. Does anyone have any experience with some type of makeshift shim? I am thinking maybe some tape?
