Rifle Scopes S&B PMII what model?

I do a lot of my shooting at an indoor range that only goes out to 100 yards but also will be using it for long range precision shooting out to a mile. The scope is likely to go on an AXMC chambered for 308 and 338.

I thought the S&B 5-25 might be too much magnification for the shorter distance. Anybody have experience shooting with it at 25m or 50m?

And I suppose the S&B 3-20 would be disadvantaged at the longer distances due to the lower magnification.

Most members here seem to purchase the S&B 5-25.

Dynamic (AR mounted): 3-20x50 for the additional FOV at low power. I have one on my .260 bolt gun, and it will be getting moved to the AR 6.5CM once I get a replacement.

Bolt Gun (Precision): 5-25x56 for the additional top end magnification. Love this scope and is what will be on the bolt gun shortly unless I get a Nightforce BEAST itch.

There's shooters here that use the 5-25 on air guns, they can do close distance just fine. For 100yd group shooting, I rather like high magnification, at least 10x.

The 5-25 is hard to beat. I like the ability to adjust down to 10m with paralax. If I was outfitting a gas gun I would look hard at the ultrashort

I went with the 3-20x50 H2CMR to save size and weight after owning a 5-25x56 for a week. Neither is a slouch.

If you dont mind a huge, heavy scope the 5-25x56 can technically do more, and you have the option of not getting the MTC/locking turrets(which I have on the 3-20x and actually grew to like). Only thing it can't do is give the huge FOV that below 7x provides. Most don't care about that.

I would suggest the 5-25 for stretching the legs out, rarely ever do I find myself below 8-10x, it's a non-issue for me with most shooting I do with the S&B. If having a smaller scope is of concern neither of the listed S&B's would be on my list as both are pretty large. That being said, the 5-25 would be at home on any of the AI's.

Also, I would probably stick clear of the locking turrets unless you need them. I would also suggest you try a scope with the MTC as well as one without. I do not mind the MTC, but there are a lot of people that dislike them as they definitely take some getting used to. With the MTC turrets you can skip over a click pretty easily.

3-20 would be perfect for you!

I happen to have the exact model and have been thinking about changing it to a 5-25 on that rifle. Pm me if you would like more info

Either would be fine for short and long range. I have and love both with the noncluttered MSR reticle!!! Enjoy whichever you chose. They seem to be only going up in value each year in our present economy.

PS-The March F (3-24X) and FX (5-40X) are also great and less expensive and can both focus down to less than 10 meters. You should really give them a harder look. Non illuminated are much cheaper and illumination not necessary, unless using them for hunting. Also, about 2/3 rds the size and weight of the S&B.
