Blowing the guys heart out is a terminal wound for sure, not an immediate incapacitating wound, to be clear.
You have to hit the spine or brain.
So, if the program was heart shot, he got what was programmed for.

I've seen field dressed deer where the heart was still pumping on the gut pile. If the heart pumps oxygen rich blood to the body, it can run on that until it needs another pump.

Cape buff are known to charge and kill hunters after a heart shot.

As a Texas history buff, I'm fascinated with the Texas Revolution. Reading what the Mexicans did to captives, one cultural difference is the lack or recognition of battlefield honor.

If you're ever in front of a Mexican firing squad, the best tactic would be to paint a bullseye on your breast and challange them to see if they can hit it. Do not ask them to shoot for it, otherwise, they'll shoot everywhere else.
