I was looking to get a HiCap handgun so I went looking. I looked at the Springfield XD and the S&W M&P. I liked the feel of the S&W M&P and the fact that it had an external safety so, I purchased that one. When I was getting the 9mm they had a .40 S&W(without the external safety) for $400, so I picked that up too.
Took them to the range and put 500 rounds of Wolf ammo through each with no problems. I was really surprised by the trigger and I liked it a lot. I have owned a Glock 17 gen 2 before and never like it. I thought the trigger was sloppy. The trigger on the S&W M&P was closer to a 1911, which is my preferred handgun.
Also, I like the slide release on the S&W M&P better than a Glock. The slide release is similar to Sig with the exception that there is a sear locking pin that you need to push down to be able to release the slide. This can be over ridden by just pulling the trigger, making field stripping easier.
I would recommend the S&W M&P to anyone looking for a new handgun. I will mention that the one I purchased are the latest generation and I have heard that they had a lot of problems when they first came out. It seems these problems have been addressed.
