I've been reading alot about these rounds alot lately(loading a 223 bullet for a 308 rifle). What I'm seeing the most is the groups open way up . How true is this and is it worth my time to load them?

I've never tried, but everything I've seen say they group poorly. Also, don't shoot them through a brake or can.
Ugh! I just got a mental picture of what might happen with a sabot going through a brake!
I have a bag full in my loading room somewhere. Tried them several times over the years when I would get a wild hair. Never had any good results. There is a thread now and then asking about them and how to load them. Guys wanting to test them out. I always tell them to let me know if they get good results, and how they did it, I would genuinely like to know. So far I list them as a collossal waste of time. I have tried them in everything from 300Mag to 30 carbine in a break action Contender pistol that allows me to seat them in the lands and keep it all straight as possible. Nothing I have tried yields anything close to the accuracy I can get with the most basic 223 REm out there.
Let me know if you find some magic way to make them work, I am all ears.
I will say my best results came with Red Dot powder, and I have the loads somewhere in my mad scientist files. The company I got my sabots from actually had loading data using Red Dot so it is safe.
