Shooters,

I just finished up with my Generation 3 side bolt release modification. I use the Alpha 11 action side bolt release and install them on Remington 700's.

Side bolt releases are great because it keeps your finger from digging around in the trigger guard when trying to release the bolt. Furthermore, our Side Bolt Release (SBR) is stronger than the factory set up because all the pressure is delivered from the SBR to the action, the pin takes no pressure. Lastly, our SBR is completely blind and there are no holes sticking up through the action. Check it out!

I've been waiting for someone to do this, and thought nobody woul even try. Good to see SAC took on the challenge. I wish I had ths done before I had my 6.5-284 nitrided. Mark, I may have an action coming to you soon for this new installment.

Very nice Mark....

Keith, I'm doing a run of 1000 threaded pins for our side bolt releases/Remington installs. I'll get a few out to you when they're ready.

Re: SAC: Generation 3 side bolt release...Sexy!

Mike you're over your private message limit.

No rush on those. We're actually going to use the through pin first we've decided. Then move onto the threaded ones later. So really, no rush. Much appreciated too.

Will Defiance use threaded pins on their Rebel actions instead of through pins?
We hope to be ordering some PCR actions in a year or two. Those actions are a dream to build with!

Re: SAC: Generation 3 side bolt release...Sexy!

I know, but it's like cleaning out the garage. There's always something more interesting to do first.

Defiance generally uses the through hole. They basically give us a pilot hole and we do the rest.

After we started doing Remington side bolt release mods a few years ago without the through hole, it started catching on, so we typically have threaded pins available. Let me know when you're ready....

Thanks for the comments guys.

To answer your question. The Gen 2 is made by X-Treme Shooting Products and was taken directly off of their actions. I will soon be discontinuing the Gen 2 release because it was deisnged to be worked with a through pin, not a blind threaded pin. So the side bolt release its self has the incorrect geometry we need to properly do a good side bolt release. The Gen 3 is taken directly off of our Alpha 11 series action and has all the correct geometry we need.

Gen 3 is the way to go for most applications, Gen 1 is still good to go, its smaller, sticks out less and has a lower profile. Both Gen 1 and 3 work great!

Mark has done the Gen3 upgrade to a remington action of mine. It looks great and functions just the same. The blind hole really makes the difference in keeping your receiver clean and hole free.

1 week or less is what we are looking at for any of the Side Bolt release mods. Give me a heads up and I can get it worked in the work load.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I hear that is one thing that Aaron excels at... no worries about that part of the equation

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like the bolt release is threaded. So there should be a screw put in up from the bottom instead of a through pin. Unscrew the "pin" and the release button will come out.

Nice looking piece, BTW. I might have to get one of these.

Sorry about the delay, We are using a threaded pin that is installed below the stock line. We blue loc-tite it in to help prevent it from coming out. It can be removed easily with a tight fitting Allen wrench.
