He was a good friend and Lineman for 47 years and a safety instructor with perfect record and yet inexplicably he jacked up the front end of a 1100 pound tractor with a belly mower under a tree and tied it off with a nylon rope. While apparently clearing grass or something jammed under the mower the rope broke and it fell killing him instantly. I’m just speechless…

    RIP.

Always tough to lose a friend. Take it easy.

If it wasnt so sad you'd have to laugh at the dumbness of what he did. Nylon rope. :sleep:I know of the same thing happening with cinder blocks.

Thank you all for the show of support and sympathy expressed. Fortunately, for some of us we have done some dumb things and survived, and Gene (the deceased) would be the first to admit this was stupid. It is so out of character for him to work on a piece of equipment in this manner it defies everything I know about him.

We've had a lot of rain lately that has interfered with mowing. I know he was to attend a meeting / dinner that night and he was rushing to get the mowing done. This may have affected his judgement, we’ll never know.

Sometimes you don’t get a do over.

Sorry for your loss of a friend. Things like this should remind us tomorrow is not promised, make sure the ones we love know it each and everyday.

I have done some sketchy stuff on equipment. As I’ve gotten older, I think about my grandson and my quest to pass on all the stuff I know and I am just far more careful these days.

    So sorry brother.
