This is my safety...

I have no idea where these movie and television shows about "operators" came up with this shit about keeping your finger outside the trigger guard...that shit will get you dead. I never have and never will keep my finger outside the trigger guard if contact is likely.

Fuck I HATE 45 safeties. If there was ever a product that existed for no reason other than to suck $$$ from your wallet it is the 45 degree AR saftey. I have been sucked into a couple of "operator" products but thank god never that one.

And if sights are not on a target- finger should be outside of trigger guard

I really do not see any reason for the rubber bands on the 45. That will not reduce the amount of time to sink and secure your grip. The rubber bands could roll up and do other things to interfere with a good grip. It also looks like only the top band is touching the grip safety.

I'm not really sure why the rubber bands are on his grip. Tape is a better solution. "Good grip" and combat do not go together, especially if your thumb is blown off or you are otherwise disabled. A combat weapon that only functions with a "good grip" is stupid.

A couple wraps of electrical tape around the frame and grip safety underneath the grip panels is a definite winner in my book.

Or, you know, just cut off the activator tab thingy.

I've taped my 45's(an alot of other shit) as a rattle is like sounding a horn in the jungle at night. One of the reasons all my sling's an swivels are still taped to this day. Those that don't know, don't know what they don't know.

Just put a pin in the mainspring housing to hold the safety down, or you can cut the tang off the grip safety.

Despite what you see on TV and in the movies, any permanent (or n0n-permanent) modification to a military firearm will bring down the wrath of God, depending on the Command environment...even in Special Forces. You can spin the wheel and take your chances. I mounted a civilian optic on my weapon and never got any heat. Nowadays, you can just buy your own upper and mount it. Alot of the exotic equipment you see carried by SF is private purchase. Here's a pic of a combat vest I had custom made...built in STABO and Rappel seat.

There are at least three reasons to keep your trigger outside of the trigger guard until the moment you want to shoot:

1. Startle response: when startled, a common reaction is for the hands to reflexively jerk closed, thereby pulling the trigger if the finger is inside the trigger guard.

2. Falling: If we fall when we have something in our hands, the natural reaction is to grab it hard, with the same response as in #1.

3. Sympathetic response: under great stress, many people who would hit the microphone button to transmit sympathetically also pull their trigger finger in too...same result as in #1.

If you aren't going to shoot right now, there is no justification in putting your finger inside the trigger guard. There is plenty of time while going from low ready up to a shooting position for your trigger finger to enter the trigger guard and fire the moment you are finally on target. Anytime else, it would be too soon to put your trigger finger inside the trigger guard.

I’ll stick to training with the finger outside the trigger guard but wouldn’t argue with someone that wears the T-shirt. I could see that fraction of a second to get the finger on the trigger being detrimental when fractions of a second count. When bird hunting with the dog on point, my trigger finger is on trigger.

I recently watched a video about a lawyer that was killed at his office because of the grip safety on a 1911.

The first round of shots exchanged between the good guy and the bad guy resulted in the bad guy taking a round to the upper chest area and the good guy taking a round to his hands on the pistol grip.

The good guy could still hold his pistol buy couldn't grip it correctly to defeat the grip safety with either hand and thus could not fire his weapon.

The bad guy took his time emptying his magazine into the good guy who could no longer defend himself.

I agree that tape is a better way to defeat the grip safety.

Any mechanical device can fail...usually at the worst possible time. Getting your gun hand shot kinda throws all manner of normal expectations on how things work out the window. If someone doesn't know how to transfer the pistol to their off hand when the trigger finger on their dominant hand gets shot off, the outcome is rather poor regardless of which firearm they are carrying. Murphy's law strikes again in the case posted above.

Even the weakest limp dick grip of any sort on a 1911 is able to disengage the grip safety.
