Today, while shooting, I experienced a malfunction in the safety/trigger Of my relatively new custom rifle.
The trigger is a Jewell trigger. The rifle will be going back to the manufacturer for diagnosis and repair, but I would appreciate hearing what you guys think is the issue.
What happened:
I fired a couple rounds and with a fresh round in the chamber, I applied the safety. It would not switch into safe position with the bolt closed. I dropped out the magazine and cleared the rifle. After working the bolt and trying to see what was the issue, I worked out that I could move the safety from fire to safe with the bolt open and once the bolt was closed, I could move the safety from safe to fire but not back again. I repeated this a few times and was sure, I was hearing the firing pin strike when I switched the safety to fire without touching the trigger. I loaded the rifle, closed the bolt aimed it in a safe direction and switched off the safety and the firearm discharged without ever touching the trigger.
Again, the rifle is going back to the original manufacturer. I am sharing this tale so we all can learn.
Ideas?
