hello, I'll try to keep it short. my dad had a rifle built by a friend in 1969. the builder came from MI and moved to colo. the rifle was built early in the gunsmithing carreer of the builder. the rifle is a Sako l579 action, fajen stock (rh). it is a .308 barrel and it is marked with what looks like "ILAIOS". father passed away and no one knows who built it. my question..... is Ilaios a barrel maker? good or bad? does this combination of components remind anyone of a builder that used them alot? thanks for any info.

Re: sako l579 custom

i understand that this question is just a shot in the dark. the lack of answers is that either no one knows or it was a really dumb question. would someone at least let me know which.

Re: sako l579 custom

dpty22, I've been in the firearms business for 45 or 50 years now. I knew or have met P.O. Ackley at his shop in Salt Lake City, Fred Wade and Bill Sukelly at their shops in Phoenix, Fred Wells at his place in Prescott, and many of the other old well-known gunmakers. I have just never heard of the name "Ilaios" as a barrel maker, stock maker or gunsmith.

thanks for the input. the barrel name is not stamped very well and it is hard to read. that is the only marking on the barrel other than the caliber. thanks again for taking time to answer.
