Sako M995 in .338 Lapua -- experience anyone?

Re: Sako M995 in .338 Lapua -- experience anyone?

While not a 338 lapua I had one in 340 weatherby without a muzle brake. It shot about 3/4 MOA to 300yards, with 225 and 250 gr elk hunting loads. It has been a long time ago. I remember it being difficult to shoot due to its weight and recoil. Overall a nice piece that I had regretted selling until I built an Edge. be aware that that there not much aftermarket support for them, but it is a great action.

Short answer is yes they shoot. I built a 338LM off of a 995 action that was already a 338LM. So if your looking to get into one and find one, go for it. You do end up with a sporting weight rifle though, and it will thump the snot out of you without a break. Stock options are limited, but they are two of the best (imho) A5 or TRG-42. If you go with the 42 stock, you will also have to buy the 42 trigger unit and run 42 mags $$$. What else ya want to know?

My 995 is on its 3rd lapua barrel, very little difference from the above post except for the the manners stock. If you build it right they shoot and shoot good. You might be better off just getting a 42, buy the time you get done it will be close to the same money.

The only thing that I remember about shooting my M995 in 338 Lapua is that the recoil would about knock the taste outta your mouth. I had to concentrate real hard to get good 3 shot groups. However as a hunting rifle it's much easy to carry than the TRG42.
