Does anyone know anything about these rifles? I have someone that want to trade me one in.375 h&h for a CZ 550 safari magnum in .458 win mag. I don't really like the stock on the sako. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

McMillan will inlet a number of their stocks for the 995; at least in two styles that I've seen.

If you're looking for a laminate or wood stock for it, I've not seen any. Doesn't mean it can't be done, but I don't think the it's been requested alot either.

The sako m995 is essentially a sako trg that has been given a "hunting" stock. The actions are just about identical, and as such are excellent actions. I bought an m995 in 300WM not too long ago to use as a donor action for a build, and I have to say I don't regret it. As for a stock replacement, that might be hard to come by, as I haven't heard of many that have been inletted for that action. I made a laminate wood stock for mine. Some others here may have suggestions that I haven't heard about though.

The M995 is great as stated above. They go like hotcakes on gunbroker. We're working on putting one in our Whiskey-3 Chassis. We've had the proto for quite awhile actually and we're in the middle of production.

If you just want a hunting style stock, you'll have to find a floorplate for it. A company in Canada used to make them. Then you could fit it into a McMillan or whatever. Actually McMillan used to do a floorplate but it sounds like they may have stopped.

I would say yes, but then again it really depends on your application. I will say the m995 has been discontinued, so they are harder to find these days.

Only you know your shooting needs/application. I personally would take a 995 over just about any other factory rifle. Of course I would then build it into a custom.

Where did you hear that McMillan may have stopped selling floorplate? Building out my M995 has been on my to do list for a while, so I called McMillan today and was told that they still sell the bottom metal with the stock.

Justin, M995 short action or long action on Whiskey-3? I have a M995 in 6.5x55 coming soon. Would it fit?

How about M995 into TRG22/42 stock? Is it a drop in?

The bottom metal is made by Williams Firearms, and it seemed hard to come by for a while. McMillan told me they couldn't give me an ETA on their next order. I also know Manners told customers he no longer did the M995 inlet because of supply shortages on the bottom metal. If things have worked themselves out, that is a wonderful thing!

I ran across a like-new M995 at Gander Mountain last year for $700. I still kick myself for not buying it, but I was under the impression the Williams bottom metal was obsolete.

The M995's were all the long action size as far as I can tell, even though a .308 is listed as a possible chambering. I've never seen any M995's in short action calibers in person or on the web.

That being said, yours should fit in the W3C, the M995 stock is made for the long action and even uses the AICS CIP length mags which will give you plenty of room.

The M995 will drop into a TRG-42 stock but you will have to purchase a TRG trigger and mag (along with the stock). The total package is pretty high priced, the fixed TRG full stock comes in well over our folder.

Your next obstacle will be finding a scope base. For ours, we drilled and tapped the action and put a flat bottom base on there, like the ones you buy for a TRG. Someone makes a ring that fits I think but if you want a cant you'll need something else.

Our W3C for the 995 is close to being done but the holidays have set us back as far as bringing new stuff to market.

As for where I hear McMillan quit doing the bottom metal, there was a post here awhile back where I believe the OP said he talked to McMillan. I then referred him to the Canadian company but I can't remember their name. A search will turn it up.

IMO, the Near base looks like shit on an M995 because it doesn't even come to the end of the receiver. I was told it was designed that way to allow more room for a scope bell.

I had my receiver drilled and tapped, so I run the USO version. I also bet the guys at Murphy Precision would build you a custom rail if you asked.

Pete at Roedale Precision also has a scope base, but I'm not a fan of the "one size fits all" philosophy.

The GAP guys also used to build their own scope base when they did a lot of M995s

Not in the M995 action. From what I can tell, they are all long actions. The only difference is the diameter of the bolt face. They have a standard, a magnum, and a super magnum (338 Lapua) version of the bolt. Brownells carries all the different bolts, so you could theoretically buy a TRG-S in 6.5x55mm, and simply swap the bolt and magazine to run a 338 Lapua.

I bought mine (a .338 lapua) for $500.

Keeps us posted on when your stock will be in stock and available for immediate shippment. I'm still going back and forth on going with McMillan or your stock.
