Since I have one of the custom Sako Quad EuroOptic group buy guns on the way for my little ones' Christmas, I have time to overthink scope and mount selection.
I already have an old Leupold Mark 4 M3 fixed 10x44mm with its newly-installed TMR reticle and a LaRue QD LT104 mount, so that price point is unbeatable, but that scope is not illuminated and has only BDC elevation—MOA, not mil/mil. Besides tons of fun, part of my plan is to develop their mil/mil skill sets on a Horus reticle, skill sets transferable to other family heirlooms.
They can already ping 200 yd... er... I mean 182.88 meter... steel using their iron sight Chipmunks, so it seems realistic for them to reach out farther with the Sako Quad's .17HMR barrel to lob tiny lead into IPSC steel.
For those reasons, rather than the Leupold, I am leaning more towards a Horus Blackbird II 1.5-8x24 with illuminated H59 reticle.
Any other suggestions? Scope? Mount?
