I just picked up a Sako M995 and plan to mount a Millett TRS-1 on it. I have the 35mm rings, but need opinions on what base(s) to use with no drilling. Will the bases with a single set screw hold with the recoil of a .30-.378 Weatherby Mag? Also would like it to be a 20 MOA base... Thanks, David

Re: Sako scope bases

Picked up the scope today and it is actually a LRS-1 and included the 35mm rings. Searching has led me to believe that I should avoid Sako optilocks...any opinions on other 20 MOA bases with no drilling?

Re: Sako scope bases

I think Near still makes a base for M995, but drilling is needed

Someone in this thread showed a US Optics base for M995. You may need to inquire the details:

M995/TRG-S is a great rifle but stock and mounting option are very limited. I am keeping mine in the original configuration

Re: Sako scope bases

Thanks, ordered the Near base. Was going to have receiver drilled and tapped at local gunsmith but was advised this receiver is tricky and should go with experienced machine shop/gunsmith so I guess I will have to send it off to be done....

I sent my Sako to Greg Tannel (Gre-Tan Rifles) to be drilled & tapped for a Near Mfg base.

He did an excellent job - work was flawless!!

Re: Sako scope bases

Here are a few options that I have found for my Sako M75 V 300wm. Finding a mount for the tapered dovetail is hard enough but the 34mm scope is seriously limiting my options. Optilock 34mm rings DO NOT come with ring liners.
The Richard Near rail needs to be drilled and tapped. The MAKuick mount is QD and appears to be a bit bulky but is definately cool looking.
Pease keep me updated with what you go with.

Re: Sako scope bases

My current scope has a 35mm tube and optilocks are not available, plus I have heard mixed reports of them not holding under the recoil of a .30-.378....

The Near base will give me the option of putting basically any scope on it in the future and is rock solid, so I ordered it...

Thanks for all the help, will keep updated!

Re: Sako scope bases

I think Moon at Crescent Customs is doing several M995s right now. He's done 1 for me already and is about to do another. You might try calling him.
