Sako TRG-22

From what I've read on this site and others I've not found any negative comments on the TRG-22, other than the accessories for the rifle are very expensive.

I've not read about any problems or issues with quality, reliability, accuracy or customer service. Maybe that's because these rifles are not real popular and there are not that many out there.

Anyway does anyone know of any issues or prolems that have surfaced since the rifle has been imported. Or any problems with customer service.

Sorry, you're not going to see a lot of problems with the TRG. Are they non-existent? Of course not because everything can have problems but what many forget is that this is a purpose built military grade rifle. Therefore, it's problems are going to be very few and far between.

Now why you don't see many of them is up for debate. Personally, I don't think they have the "cool kid trendy" factor that the AI does. (Yes, I shoot one and yes, it's my primary rifle). But it gives up nothing to the AI rifles.

They're excellent rifles.

I had a trigger problem. Beretta USA paid for UPS to pick up at my house to have it taken care of. It sounds like the adjustment might have walked on the 1st stage but since it is under warranty I didn't want to screw with it and mess something up.
The only real problem I have heard about in regards to the firearms is user error when putting the trigger group back on improperly. Bolt must be out according to the posts I have read on here or you could cause damage. They built these things for precision and I can say that they are precise!

I will tell you that I love my Sako TRG-22 and am glad that I bought it!! It is extremely nice to shoot!!! If you can get your hands on one get behind it and see how it feels! The trigger and feel is really phenominal!

Since my bolt rifle was getting worked on, I borrowed one from a fellow 'hider for the local precision match at tri county... and placed 4th. I used Federal GMM, hadn't ran the ammo over the chrono, or got anything beyond a 100 yard zero. These rifles are rock solid, and if I didn't already have a .308 I would probably have bought one after getting to use one for that match. It totally sold me on the Sako..

They are not the "flavor of the month" and inexperienced shooters cannot say they own the current hyped up buzzword "5R" when talking about TRGs, so most American shooters are not familiar with them.

Tikka/Sako build a quality product.

I love my TRG 22 and 42 (.300 win mag). I have never had a problem with my rifles. Also, I will not ever get rid of them. When I shoot the bbl out of the .308 I will have it chambered for .260. I don't know if Euro Optics is still taking deposits for the TRG 22 in .260, but if I didn't have my .308 I would get one of the .260s. TRGs are great rifles.

I ask because I will be shooting left and handed. In other words can the cheek rest be adjusted the same on the left side as the right side?

LOL - Looks like TCW types faster then I do... ^^^^

Only problem I see, if you shoot your barrel out, the only way to get a replacement Sako barrel is to find one pulled off of a new rifle. This is due to the stupid federal law that prevents importation of barrels into the USA.

If you get the TRG-22, look at the Near base and Alpha mount, they are the perfect set-up for my TRG's.

The rifles are balanced well and are lighter than they look. So, I would say it can be done decently.

You can have any of the barrel makers make it the same as the Sako barrel contour.

The Beretta parts guy I talked to said they are not showing as available. He said maybe that's because it's a new model. Did he know what he was talking about?

So what is round count expectation with at 1 MOA accuracy if well taken care of?

Negative on Sako barrels made in Finland due to US import laws, everything else is available. Brownells carries the parts now for Beretta. When I bought my first TRG, internet rumors (we all know about those) indicated that the firing pins are brittle, thus it's not wise to dry fire a TRG, so I bought a spare firing pin just in case that rumor was true. Since then I've never heard of anyone ever (in real life) breaking a firing pin on a TRG.

The rep from Beretta told me the Finnish Military changes out the barrel's on their TRG-42's at 3000-rounds regardless if they are still shooting sub-moa. and I could expect to see 5000-rounds at sub-moa through mine if I don't over-heat the barrel (i.e. multiple rounds fired quickly). So I imagine the 308 barrel could last you a good 8000+ if you treat it right. I think my TRG-22 barrel will last a long, long time.

When I bought mine, the previous user had re-installed the trigger incorrectly, and then installed the bolt. As a result, the trigger mechanism had to be replaced. Since then, though, it has been awesome, and I have had no regrets.

It does balance well despite that heavy barrel, but a muzzle brake kinda makes it feel like a pig on a shovel- to me. YMMV

This rifle is a rock solid performer, and I have been amazed what my TRG 42 in .300 mag will do. I easily got sub .5 MOA when doing load development. That is, 5 different charges of the same powder and using the same bullet all gave me sub .5 MOA groups. That is pretty amazing stuff right there.

My TRG22 has around 6000 fast rds down then pipe. Throat still looks good, minimal wear, and with its favourite fodder of scenars and smk's it is still holding under 0.5moa (on non windy days lol).

When I order rifle should I order any of the spacers for adjustable cheekweld? I think they said there is a 10mm spacer. I have read somewhere that is max size you can use and still be able to remove the bolt. I also think they make them in 3mm size too.

Should I wait until I get rifle to oder them? I was just thinking it would be good to have them to experiment as to what was most comfortable and useful.

I recall reading on board that a member makes spacers for rifle. Does anyone recall who that is and whether he is still making them?

I would not buy the Sako spacer. Buy one from SakoTRG FAN. It fills the contours of the slot great, looks better than the sako mount, is less expensive and he will mill it to the exact thickness for your set-up. Search for his post. Thickness has been talked about there.

You will not be able to remove the bolt with a 10mm spacer. the bolt won't hit the cheek piece with a 10mm spacer. I had a 10.5 mm spacer built for my rifle, and the bolt does not hit (TRG 42 .300 WM, but it is close.

As for shooting the rifle offhand...I have shot it at 300 yards on a piece of steel that was dangling by one of the two chains originally holding it. It was presenting between 1 and 3 inches most of the time and I hit it about 60% of the time (Brand692 and SFTexan can vouch) slung up with my TAB sling. The stock is extremely comfortable in all shooting positions. I definitely think it is vastly superior comfort wise to an AICS offhand.

I plan to use a scope and mount I have which is a Nightforce 2.5-10x32 mounted in a Bobro Quick release mount. Would that work?

You still need a base of some kind. And I wouldn't put a Bobro mount on the rifle as it would be too high. Those mounts are made for ARs which have a flat top to the comb of the stock so you need the height. Not so much on most bolt action rifles like a TRG. You can get spacers. But I rather not if I can help it.

Don't quite understand your post. On my 22 with a 10mm spacer 'factory' I CAN remove the bolt CLOSE but doable. On my 42 with 10mm 'factory' spacer I can not remove bolt.

The measurement from the top of the rail on the LaRue OBR 556 to the center of the optic is about 1.5". I recall Andrew saying it was 1.47 but I'm not sure.

You can do whatever you want. The fact that is you still need a base which will raise the optic, then you want to put a Bobro or whatever QD mount on top of that will just raise it some more. Personally, I like my cheek down on the stock instead of my chin. YMMV.

I agree with above. I just wanted to put exact measurement as I was hoping maybe I could use things the way they are. That's appears not to be in the cards. I really am not incline to build up the trg base with spacers so I can use the bobro mount.

What would be a good ring height to use? Like is there a recommendation or rule of thumb as to what measurement from top of rail to center of optic should be?

And get some free home depot paint stirring sticks first as your height test. 3 sticks stacked together are .450" exactly. You'll need a new longer bolt. M6 threads X 1.0P. Ace hardware or Fastenal carry them.
