While I’m busy waiting for my barrel to come back with a Badger brake installed, I figured it was time to mess with perfection. The KRG folding stock actually is perfection, but I wanted a better fitting comb, and, can't leave well enough alone.
The original TRG comb fits me just right, so I glued then shaped some 1/4” ABS into a fair replica. I then hand tapped a series of holes in some 5/8” SQ 6061 aluminum bar stock and threaded some 5/16” rod to make posts and anchors.
After cutting a 3/4” wide x 5/8” deep mortise in the bottom of the comb, I set and anchored the bar stock with JB Weld. Three coats of Krylon later, you can still see the lines from the crappy glue job I did on the ABS. I may cover the whole thing with a 1/8” Cheek Eez pad from No-Kick, mostly to make it less slippery. Last on the list is figuring out how to black out the posts. Maybe some heat shrink mat'l.
Approx cost for materials: $20
Estimated value of time: $600 (hand-tapping aluminum sucks!)
Estimated (and exaggerated) value of new comb: $35
Value of lessons learned: $585
