It occurs to me this morning that as we watch moonbats running themselves over in Virginia, Texas tragically flooding, Captain Kimchee threatening us with his bottle rockets and Russia Russia Russia on everyone's lips... that 45 years ago (or so), most of us never had these concerns. Really, the '60's and '70's were an amazing time to be kids.

And that Saturday Morning cartoons (before going outside to play with friends, hunt, fish, catch tadpoles, frogs and snakes, ride bikes, play army with cap guns, do chores... whatever) were like a religion. From getting up until getting tossed out of the house to do 'constructive' things... Loony Tunes, Pink Panther, Max the Mouse, Johnny Quest... were a must.

Post some of your favorites.... It will be a fun thread to come home to tonite after farm work... I expect there might be some funny stuff!

You know, they are still funny as hell! It's a shame that they have been branded 'too violent' for today's snowflakes. So many good lessons. Like... don't sit on a barrel of dynamite!!

Cheers,

Sirhr

I wonder if this cartoon would have gone over well back in the 40s and 50s. :D

It was a great time to be a kid Sir. A buddy of mine I have known for 50 years were talking about the same thing over the weekend.

My personal favorite included the the ones you mentioned and the occasional Wacky Racers and Scooby Doo.

Captain Caveman,
Scooby Doo,
Wil. E. Coyote,
Marvin The Martian
Foghorn Leghorn

All of this was a great way to start a Saturday, as a youngster. Remember, this was all after a previous night of Dukes of Hazzard and In Search Of, (Leonard Nemoy's greatest work)

Ah, so many moons ago,,,,

I remember waking up about 6:00 on Saturday mornings so I wouldn't miss any of the cartoons. Although it wasn't a cartoon, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the "Little Rascals" yet.

BTW, I always hoped the coyote would catch the roadrunner eventually.

As an old guy, I recall being confused by all the news override cartoons when Iran grabbed hostages.....

back in the day of 4 tv channels.....

I was just past cartoons when the Sov's invaded Afghanistan... and just starting to get aware of politics. Reagan was on the rise. I definitely remember a Saturday afternoon movie being interrupted... maybe a James Bond movie on one of our four channels (one was French Canadian). News that the Soviets had invaded came on. Not 24 x 7 coverage like we have now. But a few minutes of, I think, Walter Cronkite announcing it. And a few 'break-ins.' It was right around Christmas. I was building a model of a Jeep CJ7 (my dream car... what with a drivers' license coming very soon.). And was deciding what color to paint it... being my dream car.

Simpler times. Who knew what that moment would ultimately lead to!

Cheers,

Sirhr

P.S. Thanks for the compilation! I'll have to watch that!

^ Lowlight's personal favorite cartoon when he's not rocking out to Lady Gaga. ;)
