Sav 12 LRP DBM Long Range Precision 6.5?

Thinking about picking one up for a medium range target (800-1000) rifle and an antelope rifle for a retirement gift for my dad. My brother and I were going to build him a rifle but the LR Precision has what we were going to build anyways. If we go with the Savage we will have it dipped, and probably put a Leupold 8.5-25x on it. All said and done rifle, dies, brass, scope mount, good rings, optics we would like to be into it 2k +/-, that's what we had in mind for budget on a build anyways. My brother and I have decided if we build we will go with a 260 Remington, but we both agree the 6.5 an 260 are to close to worry about any difference.

Anyone have one? If so is it worth the price? How is the accuracy? We are looking for a 1/2MOA gun. Dad could use it in "factory gun" at the bench rest shoots he goes to also that that would be a plus.

Dad lives in Michigan so about the longest he can realistically shoot is around 600yards without having to drive more than an hour. When he comes out here to Wyoming we shoot a lot of extreme distance, mainly with my rifles that are set up for that.

I have one and I've been very pleased.
Also a LRPV in .223.
They are good, right out of the box.
The HS Precision varminter is a very good stock. I added a cheek rest to the LRPV and may to the LRP as well.
The target accu trigger is claimed to go down to 6oz but I've not gone less than 10oz. Its a fine trigger but you need to pull straight back. Some have reported a possible issue if pulled with side pressure on the trigger. I've had no problems.
Mine is a solid 1/2moa rifle, a few groups in the .2s.
I can say mine is happier with less than maximum loads using heavy 140gr, around 2450fps. Haven't tried lighter bullets but will be soon. I suspect that they will be more to this guns liking.
Its no light weight at 12.6lbs with scope (Sightron Slll 8-32x56)

I've had a .260Rem model since Nov'12 and other than the factory barrel having a mis-aligned chamber job I've been very pleased with it. It is not a light rifle but is reasonably well balanced. The current LRP's are shipping with the PST114 stocks rather than the old PSV118. For larger capacity magazines contact Dan at Dark Eagle Customs and pick up the extended mag release as well. Through numerous practice sessions and five matches I have yet to have an issue with Dan's magazines. 6.5 Creedmoor and .260 Rem are VERY similar and it's a toss up. However, with reloading components being in short supply (specifically H4350) I'd give the nod to the 6.5 Creedmoor because you can get Hornady factory match ammo for it along with match ammo from Copper Creek. You can also get .260Rem match ammo from Copper Creek and South West Ammo. For bench work the Accu-trigger should suffice, but Rifle Basix makes a nice replacement if you don't like the Accu-trigger.

My original barrel was 1.0-.75 MOA at 100yds, but would throw some oddball flyers into a longer string due to the bad chamber. I had the original barrel cut down and rechambered in 6.5 Creedmoor and it will now shoot 0.5MOA or less, so the factory barrels are pretty good when chambered properly. If you want to change caliber or upgrade the factory tube aftermarket barrels are available from several of the top makers. Jim at Northland Shooter supply has a pretty good supply, just make sure you get a large shank. My Shilen replacement barrel is an absolute hammer!

I took my 12 LRP in .260 rem to the range today to chrono some hand loads. It was putting them in a single hole when I did my part. I ended the morning with a 10-shot group well under .75". This was all at 100 yards from a bench with a bipod and rear bag.

I have it pillar bedded in a Manners T4 stock with CDI bottom metal, a Karsten cp, and still have the target accu trigger as is came from the factory.

I bought a LRP in 6.5cm but its still sitting in the safe unfired. I even bought a CBI match barrel for it, but after seeing the groups some guys are putting up, I may just shoot this one out before I swap it.

Even though I have no experience with mine yet, it looks and feels solid, has a good stock, and it *should* shoot lights out.

Groups at 100 yards sucked but farther out they tightened up on the one I had I was going to use it as an antelope but decided I didn't like a trigger that light. Great cartridge and rifle combo, I will get another 6.5cm down the road though. Ending up trading rifle scope brass and dies for a les baer premier II.
