? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

Re: ? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

Mine came with an hs precision that I'm happy with. Can't go wrong with the AICS coming. Heard good things about the manners, but never used/handled one.

Some "chassis" that are out there are these two. They are more expensive that most of the other stocks but they do offer a lot of customization to them and making them "fit" you. As a bonus they supposedly do not need to be bedded , you just drop in your action and go shoot.

If you are looking at going with a mag system they allow you to use AICS mags if you chose. They also have models that have the blind magazine also.

Re: ? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

I have a Rem700 in a McMillan A5 and a Win M70 in a HS Precision PST38 in addition to this 10FP in the Prairie Dog. All very good stocks. The Prairie Dog is probably the least expensive of the three. Shot a 10FP in the new Choate Tactical stock today. Thought that is a good one to.

Re: ? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

That's a good question. I'm thinking of going with the Choate myself just because of the price. I'm trying to decide if I want the one for the center feed blind mag or the one for the DBM. I don't know if the DBM set up is worth an extra 289 bucks!

Re: ? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

OK guys heres my 2 Cents. Choate Ultimate varmint is a great stock for the bench, but way too heavy for anything else. Changed out my ultimate varmint for a bell and carlson duramax, bedded it and shot great. Finally wanted to get the savage with DBM, and found out that buying the kit had to be done by gunsmith and savage would only sell kit to gunsmith. 175+ for that then new stock, usually HS precision or Mcmillan already cut out for mags, and decided to just buy new 10FCP-HS with DBM from Savage and saved money. Still not sure if it was worth it. Just as easy to load one at a time and shoot like hell.
Good Luck!

Re: ? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

brett for yours, since you dont have the factory DBM, the best way is CDI. i heard that the spacing on the screw holes is so close its not possible or practical to try to drill and tap for the new spacing required for the factory DBM.

CDI told me that factory DBM rifles are easy to add his bottom too. no external inletting required if i recall. just some internal work for clearance is all thats required. in your case brett, the CDI is the way to go. otherwise you should have gotten the DBM from the start. its just cheaper. there is one in a choate tactical for $650 unfired with that DBM. its just way cheaper to buy it from the factory with what you want. i love the CDI stuff. ideally i would buy a 10fp and add the CDI, which is where you are brett. adding it to my rifle, just dont make sense unless i can sell (you, lol) my DBM stuff and it takes work and $$ to convert it i guess. may as well go CDI

to the OP, stocks are a savage nightmare in some ways. look at the changes that they have come up with over the past few years. 10fp-blind mag, 10fcp-center fed mag, 10fcp-k center feed w/ mag and accu stock. all three require different stocks dont they? or at least work to make one fit from an fp to an fcp. then you have the accustock. pics of range reports show nice groups with it. plus you are paying for the tech built into it and i dont think they have an aftermarket offering yet. also call jim at northland. he has new stocks and is savage savvy enough to guide you thru the maze. he is at the SHOT show this week.

Re: ? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

didnt someone post the ultimate varmint was a heavy beast to lug. look at manners if the price isnt too far out for you. cant be too much more than HS. or call jim at northland he told me he carried the HS stocks. but he is at SHOT show this week

Re: ? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

Hello! First post here...
Just got a Choate tactical stock for my 10FCP-XP (heavy fluted barrel, .308, detachable mag, accutrigger).
I am a novice when it comes to guns, and especially stocks, but I do know there are better stocks out there than this Choate. However, with that said, I am happy with how it went together. The machined aluminum bedding is rock-solid and the barrel and detachable mag assembly fit like a glove. The trigger-guard assembly, however, simply would not go in without taking a dremel to the sides of the channel on the stock. Not really a big deal, though.
For the price, it's a nice stock. Maybe I'll post a pic later...

Re: ? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

Just installed a B&C Medalist Tactical on my 10FP Choate Folder. Way nicer stock then the Choates. Haven't shot it yet, but the Choate would hold .5"-.6" pretty regularly at 100yrds. Nothing wrong with the Choate stocks, just kinda cheezy looking with a 1.5" barrel channel.

Re: ? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

I guess it depends who you are if it is expensive or not...

Here is a price list from CDI.

Bottom metal = $209
Mag = $80
Cutting of stock = $60

That does not include shipping from point A to B then from point B to A.

Add the price of a stock to that and you could be @ $700 and up...

idk... To each his own, but to me that is expensive for a DMB.

Re: ? Savage 10-fp stock recommendation ?

i meant the cost of cdi compared to other bottom metal kits out there. im not looking them up but seekins, badger, hs precision, d-bull are all more i thought. his inletting is cheaper too i think. the mags are crazy high, but he dont make them so thats not his deal. the stock is something you would already have, whether you use your own or buy one for an upgrade. if you buy, its up to you how much you pay. i dont work for him or own his stuff yet, but its not the most expensive DBM out there is i guess what i was saying. better?
