Rifle Scopes Savage 10 PC in 308 incoming... Need scope, etc.

Will be used for both hunting situations from 75 - 500 yds (primarily hogs) in sunlight or low light conditions and targets out to 600 - 800 yds. Would like to keep total cost of scope, rings and scope base <$1000.

I'm thinking that the typical hunting scopes with duplex retical wouldn't work for what I want. So, likely need a scope with mil-dot reticle. What variable power do you recommend?

Suggestions for scope, rings and scope base?

There's a Nikon for sale in the optics section. Includes rings too. It was even on my Savage Model 10. I'm asking $600 shipped

Here is mine with a 2.5-10 NF. Power range is fine, would reccomend going with a 32mm-40mm objective. The 24mm is too small at dusk/dawn shooting on the higher mag-powers.

The bushnell 3-12 FFP is on sale everywhere for 600$. You could have that scope + TPS rings and base for probably 740$ shipped from midwayusa.

I'm leaning towards something like 4-14 or 4 - 16 with an objective of 44 or 50mm. I want decent glass with mildot. If I have to up my budget, I will. I don't want to buy something that is just "ok".

Vortex PST 4-16 but they won't be available for a little while yet. If you want it "right now" I still vote for the bushnell 3-12. Also if you want something "better" you really have to spend around 1500$.

I ordered the Vortex PST 4-16 X 50 FFP for my Mod. 12 .308 build. Optics Planet has them for $ 806.55 (listed on the site as $ 849.00) when you use a 5% discount coupon code "opiv5of".

For me, it's worth the wait of (allegedly) 5-10 days before it ships as it will be 6 weeks before I get the barrel for my Savage build anyway.

What base and rings do I need with the Bushnell 3-12 FFP? 20MOA base? Which ring height?

Low rings, midway has a weaver 1pc base for $30 that I ordered and seems to work just fine if you want to keep cost down.

I would however recommend a Badger 20MOA base and whatever rings you prefer in lows - Badger/Seekins/NF, Etc.

My current setup is a 10pc / Bushnell 4200 3-12 with the weaver base and Warne Med.(I think) rings. I'll try to show you a pic later.

Thanks for the suggestion and coupon code. I decided to order the same scope. What scope rings and base for this scope on my rifle?
