I am looking at purchasing a Manners T4A stock for my Savage 10PC. I was told by Manners that I could send them my barreled action and they could bed the recoil lug when they did the inlet for the action and installed the pillars. I am not completely sure what the difference is between bedding the recoil lug and a full bedding job. Maybe I am confused here. I was told with doing the recoil lug, it would be serviceable and I would be okay to proceed. I would like some opinions on this as I have this feeling I am not sure I understand what was said.

I have done a lot of research on bedding and this is the first time I have had someone tell me this. Am i missing something here. I dont mind finding someone herein Dallas to do the bedding however, if having manners do the pillars and recoil lug is enough, then I would go with that.

Opinions please!

I know I am new to the site so I hope the newbie thing isn't a problem. I have hunted quite a bit and used a number of rifles; I'm not new to the game. That said, I am new to all of this custom work and am out of my element. I have used the search function and i did not seem to find what I was looking for so here I am. Sorry if I have duplicated a post. If so, if someone could direct me to a particular thread, I will go there and delete this one.

Thanks in advance!

When you bed a savage you should only bed 1/4" or so if any in front of the recoil lug and then back to the second pillar (first pillar is just behind recoil lug second is in front of trigger) most savage users including myself do not have the rear tang (safety location) bedded as more times than none it makes then shoot larger moa then not bedding this. One only wants to bed 1/4" if any in font of the recoil lug just to keep the barrel free floating and to keep te harmonics in the barrel at a constant rate. If you bed much further into the barrel area the harmonics will be thrown off wit every shot where the barrel whips/vibrates differently when it hits the bedding in the barrel channel.

Just to give you some insight I have a savage 110 in .338 lapua that had a hs stock. I bought a manners t5 stock and had a buddy bed it with devcon. Big mistake it is now going to manners to have Tom and the manners crew fix it as the original devcon bedding has cracked. I am 110% satisfied with manners customer service and will be buying from them as soon as I start another build.
