Hunting & Fishing Savage 220F

Re: Savage 220F

Just bought one for this season in New York. Using the tipped Barnes Bullet Federal Loads, it will cloverleaf three shots at 100. Using those 3" loads it has a pretty good kick. Not real happy with the ejection or the clip.

Re: Savage 220F

I read you need to mount the scope with high rings to clear ejected hulls. Also read the shotgun fails to strike primers hard enough to fire some ammo brands. No personal experience just information from reading reviews. Thanks for the info.

Re: Savage 220F

I just picked one up and topped it off with a Nikon Slug Hunter 3X9 scope. I had about 15 minutes of daylight left by the time I could get it to the range, and fired 2 rounds from 25 yards to get it where I wanted it. I fired one 3 shot group at 100 yards with Win. Platinum Tips 2 3/4 inch. I have some Federals and Remington Accu-tips that I will try this weekend. Here's a pic of the Platinum Tip group. I'm planning on hunting in Ohio this season and decided to get this gun. I got rid on a H&R USH in 20 gauge that had difficulty holding pie plate sized groups at 100 yards. I tried damn near $100 worth of slugs through the H&R to no avail. [img:center]

Re: Savage 220F

Love mine... I found the 3" remington accu tips group the best for me.
I have a bdc 250 retical scope on it. I can't believe how this thing shoots.
After I got it dialed in, three shots touching at 100, I put up a new target and shot at the BDC distances. 100, 110, 140 all touching. At 180 I was 1" high. At 210 I was 1" low. I was very impressed. I do believe if you must hunt with a slug gun - this combo is hard to beat for the investment.

Posted below is the last 3 shot target at 100 yards with the 3" accu-tips. I bought several boxes and put them up.
