Savage 223 stabilizes 75 ELDM but not 50 GR Vmax

I shot some reloads (50Gr Vmax, 26Gr Varget, CCI 400, once fired LC brass) with my Savage.

It’s keyholing. Interestingly it’s still pretty accurate with just over 1” at 100Y.

The same gun shoots 75 ELDM at 0.5 MOA with no keyholing.



I’m really surprised that the Savage, with its 1/9 twist, can’t stabilize the 50GR Vmax. I tried the same load in my AR15 with a 24” barrel and a faster 1/8 twist and I didn’t see any Keyholing.

What’s going on here?
