Savage 270

Ok, I'm looking for some info. I have a Savage 270 Left bolt. Starting to get into long range shooting never really done it before. Thinking about putting a muzzle brake, kydex cheek rest,and a harris bipod, not sure if I want to mess with the Trigger right now. Also What ammo would you suggest to use. I'm doing alot of research but wont be able to even mess with it till I get home.

If I can find the pictures I have of it I will post them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I know I may need a spoting scope, or bino's, and possible a range finder. Any other suggestions on what gear I may need?

Two- You are talking about personal preferences to your rifle.

Muzzlebrake- I prefer to use Badger thrusters or Little Fat Bastards from APA. The Vias isn't bad as well but look around for what you will want to do (ie do you mind ports 360 degrees or just at 3 and 9 oclock)or do you want it just as a bolt on.

Cheek rest- Not a bad addition but will your stock allow it (ie cheek piece) don't know as you gave no inclination as to model or stock on the rifle

Bipod- Get the swivel model if you are able. A pod loc will be of assistance as well

Ammo- Find what you gun prefers. Buy about 5 or 6 quality kinds and try them out. You will find one shoots better than others. I have had great success in the 270 with Black Hills Gold 130gr but find something it likes as it may be different

Its a 111 FCXP3. I think I cant really remember havent had the time to actually shoot the thing. Hoping I can when I finally get home. I have swapped out the scope with a BSA panther scope. Any other mod suggestions?

Hey we all gotta start somewhere.

You asked so I would start with:

1. trigger adjusted to the safest and lightest pull your rifle will handle putting saftey first above poundage.

2. Your rifle comes pillar bedded but I would skim bed it as well

3. Buy quality rings and bases and as you gradually go buy a good of optics as you can. Good optics can be had at a reasonable price.

4. The muzzlebrake may be something to do later as I would rather spend my money elsewhere on better optics, rings and bases. Besides you may not like the added noise of a brake.

5. What do you want as far as accuracy? Sub MOA...minute of deer. Get some ammo and get behind that rifle!!!!!!! Burn the barrel out of it learning to shoot it.

6. Subscribe to the Online Training portion of this site and pay attention to the videos.

7. Get some snap caps and dryfire practice when you can't go to the range.

Here is the point...shoot, shoot , shoot and shoot some more with YOUR rifle. You can upgrade as you go along. Find some good instruction if possible and get a good foundation on shooting correctly adn go from there

Ok looking for a left handed cheek rest with the ammo pouch. I am only finding these cheek rest in right-handed. Any guidance to where I could look and find one?

Eagle and BlackHawk make them but you'll probably have to order them direct since you're handicapped and all!

Lefthanded that is
