Have a savage 308 bolt with accutrigger that is starting to give a problem. When I attempt to pull the trigger, it is firm and will not move. I pull the bolt back and slam it forward pretty hard to get the trigger to set. It then works. This doesn't happen often but is annoying when it does. About to start pulling it apart and see if I can fix it. Any ideas on what is wrong or have advice?

Usually the opposite seems to happen. If adjusted to light, the trigger safety will set and will lock the trigger upon closing the bolt. Lifting the bolt releases the safety and lowering back down slowly will allow the rifle to fire. Slamming the bolt home will trip the safety If set to light as well which is opposite of what you are saying.

Try adjusting the trigger for a little heavier pull and see if that fixes your problem. If not then you have other issues. Sometimes the adjustment screws will walk on these as well and loosen over time and cause the issues. A little nail polish on the threads should fix that.

I did adjust it to where I liked it which is pretty light. Hadn't thought of that being the problem. I will do some adjusting and see if that makes a difference. Hadn't check the screws in a while so will add that to my plan, also.
