Heyy there sniper's hide

last year i bought a Savage Edge .308 and put over 200 rounds through it. after about 50 rounds the groups tightened up and all the holes are touching at 150 yds. My question is do you think i could shoot out to 1000 yds with this gun? I have a Nikon 4.5-14x40 on the gun. is 1000 yds realistic or just a waste of ammo?

The 308 round will do its part.
Have you ever shot anything to that distance before?
You would definitely need a 20 MOA scope base at the least and that could lead to problems with the Nikon running out of adjustment as well. You don't say what model Nikon it is.
It is realistic but maximize your odds before hand. Shooting that distance with any rifle is much more than just the rifle.

If you look at a drop chart there will be a lot more drop to get to 1000 from your previous 425. Not all scopes have the mechanical ability to dial up that much.
I would suggest that you work toward your goal by taking your equipment to it in incremental steps. Once you feel like you have mastered, say, 600 yards then move out a hundred or two and start over. You can make a drop chart using JBM. Just google JBM Ballistics and put in the required data.
This exercise will also let you know more about the limits of the scope. If it wont allow you to zero at 600 you surely won't make it to 1000.
Good shooting & good luck.

I had an older Nikon Monarch and if I am thinking of the right scope, it didn't have enough adjustment to let me zero @ 100 with the 20 moa base. I think it had about 40-/+ of moa adjustment. So, lets say you zero @ 200 and have 35 -/+ of useable adjustment. JBM indicates it would take 31.8 moa to make 1000 with a 175 Berger VLD @ 2750 fps, 800 asl and 70 degrees. Looks like you might have enough to make it, but.....

Yes! so far i like it alot and after putting close to 200 rounds through it i can safely say it shoots just as accurate as any other savage (just no accutrigger) that i own. I recomend this rifle to beginer and experienced shooters alike. im actualy going to do a pretty lengthy review on the rifle this coming week. tune into my channel for more info on the rifle. http://www.youtube.com/user/BOOG3YMANN?feature=mhee
