Savage bolt guns

The vast majority of Savage sales are to people that don’t shoot enough to identify these perceived “issues.”
I would say there`s a lot of truth in that, yes. In addition, some people just aren`t bothered to the same degree as others by a given thing. ANY hunting rifle, relatively speaking, doesn`t get shot a lot, certainly compared to the high volume, long range precision shooting that I think a great many SH posters do. Based on what I`ve read, not all Savage rifles by any means experience " issues " . Also, the higher end (more expensive ) target Savage rifles may well not experience as much. I will say that my Model 12 LRPV, which in all respects is a target rifle in a hunting stock, has a heavy bolt lift. It`s a single shot, shot slowly at the range, and it just doesn`t bother me that much.

If y’all haven’t noticed most gun people are cheap asses that actually never shoot their guns at an extended period of time.

Savage is great and accurate for some dude shooting three rounds a year lol.

Go let all the savage fan boys at the range finger bangle your customs and see what they say.

My first precision rifle was a 10BA in .308.
I hand loaded for that rifle and it was averaging about 0.6 MOA. At around the 4,000 round mark the groups started opening up.
I got an IBI 1-10” twist 26” barrel that was never installed on a Canadian EE.
I haven’t shot it a lot recently since I have a bunch of other rifles.

What I liked about the Savage was that I didn’t need a gunsmith to rebarrel the rifle.
I ended up buying a second 10BA in 308 because it was near new and I planned to rebarrel that on into a 6.5 Creedmoor.

I then bought a Savage 110BA in 338 Lapua Magnum because it was nearly new and very cheap. The first owner only fired 10 rounds out of it.
I then bought a Savage 12FV in 6.5 Creedmoor (Cabela’s special) I put it in an MDT LSS-XL and I shot these groups during load development.

I ended up installing an IBI 1-8” twist.

any chance you'd be willing to part of any of those chassis ? im looking for my Savage 12 SA

ime savage make decent target rifles but they get gummed up easier than any other action I've seen.
if there's no fine dust you should be fine.
At least for me, my Savage Model 12 LRPV in .223 has been more than a “decent target rifle “. Through 1200 rounds it’s yet to fail to extract and ejects with authority. Recently married it up with a Sinclair F class skipod and a Protektor rabbit ear rear bag . By far the most stable sight pictures I’ve had. Much better consistency on the 4” gong at 500 yards.

Should I talk about Savage here on the Hyde? :)
Assembled a Savage 10 in 22 Nosler as a Christmas present for the wife to shoot F-Open
Shooting Berger 85.5's at about 3000fps.
Bought an action, stock, and Shilen barrel. Did some trigger and bolt work and it's pretty smooth now.
There's a few Savage smiths that could do a better job but I don't think I did bad for a Kitchen Assembled bolt gun.
Reworked trigger springs and shimmed the trigger for a 2oz blade, 7oz total pull.

Came up with my own version of a bolt lift kit using Carbide flat against Si3N4 ball.

Reworked the cocking notch and ramp, increased pin fall and installed a flat wound firing pin spring.
Have two bolts set at different preload for the wife to test. Always testing :)

Here's cocking force on one of them.

Her 600 scores were 192,196,197, 196,196,200.
Last match the heat was terrible and she didn't do as well, 193,195,195.

Oh well, not a 1/2MOA all day long gun :(
