Shoot a hot round or two in it & your ejection problem will show its face. It's the week link in the Savages.

Get the cheapest used Savage or Stevens with the bolt face that you want and build a rifle from that. It will save you money in the long run because it won't stay stock long (don't ask how I know).
Why, please? My Model 10 chambers fine, shoots fine, and ejects fine. So why enhance what already works great?
I'm not sure exactly when they stopped putting "Tactical" on the bolt. However, I know that the older models with the staggered magazine and shorter (4.25") screw spacing had that. So, that would be my first concern. If you plan on changing the stock, it might be harder to find one in that spacing, depending on what stock/chassis you're looking for. That's something I would research a bit, first.Last question savage fellas....found a deal on model 10 in 308. It's the tactical version with the junk plastic stock. Anything special about this? HeavIER barrel, not really that heavy, and says tactical on the bolt.....
I do have a stock inbound and that's one of my main concerns, the 4.4. Had this guy measure it and he says it's 4.4. The only problem I have ever seen with an extractor on a Savage bolt was with a primer pocket that blew out on some bad brass in an Axis. Even then, it only knocked the extractor loose. Nothing was broken and we were able to put it back together in just a few seconds. Not saying that one couldn't break, but I've put thousands of rounds through Savage rifles and this is the only issue I've ever seen with one.Not meaning to derail the thread, but how hot does the round have to be to break the extractor? Will hot enough to cause the bolt to stick, flattening out the primer when fired qualify?
You guys are making me regret spending so much money on my 10Fcp-sr.
