I’m going to be placing an order for one today. I was wondering if anyone has any ammo recommendations? It will mostly be used for squirrel hunting. It’s the 21in heavy barrel. Thank you!

22's are finicky beasts. They almost all "like" different ammo. the being said, the more expensive ammo almost always shoots better than bulk ammo. esp subsonic ammo.

I tuned up a FV SR for my brother, it liked wolf ammo good enough. The rifle really isn't capable of one hole groups but the wolf shot near 1/2 at 50

If I were you, I would buy a box of mid grade ammo from eley, wolf and RWS and see which shoots best.

Good Luck. Its fun

It's only 25 yards, but my MK II shoots tiny groups with cheap Remington subsonics.

I have one with a 3x15-42 SWFA and I seriously can't imagine much more fun than going out to a quarry with it and shooting rocks off highwalls to 350yards. With CCI Standard Velocity you'll see around 13.8/14 mills to 310yards. 1.8 mills to 100 yards if zeroed at 50.The only shitty part about the gun other than the goofy odd action design, is the flimsy bottom metal. I pulled the bottom metal and used it as a template on some slightly heavier gauge plate steel that way I could actually tension the action screws without bending the bottom metal. I put a DIP 30?moa mount on it.....it came with scope mounts that required me drilling the screw heads off to remove. Love the rifle now though. Not a chippy within 125 yards stands a chance!

I'm really looking forward to when I can find some CCI Quiets in stock locally to see how it will shoot those.....pew pew.

I have a Mk ii BFV-HB with a 4-25x FFP optic on it mounted to a DIP 25MOA rail which I use for rimfire PRS and occasionally squirrel hunting. It is a pleasantly accurate and flexible rig. It seems to shoot any good ammo well but I used Wolf MX for the matches. It is zeroed to 50y but can dial up to 250y using the turrets and a small hold over for 300y. At 50y it is capable of about 0.25" groups in calm conditions. under 1" at 100y with the occasional group that is closer to 1/2". At 200y it is about 2-3" most of the time but is still amazingly capable of hitting pieces of clay birds all the way out to 230y which is the end of my normal practice range. In my last match this year it was hitting plates at 250y to 290y with reasonable consistency. These were about 5-6" plates I think. It is not a tack driver but it is a very good practical rig. With pricier ammo like Lapua Mida+ it is capable of better accuracy if it is needed. I have not shot much Eley thru it since my past experience with Eley for extreme long distance had not been that good. Using CCI hi-vel HP's like Mini-Mags or Stingers using the lighter bullets and much faster velocity, you will gain a flatter trajectory at longer ranges but will also give up some precision in your groups. Stingers are usually going to print groups that are about 2x larger than the best groups with subsonics. Mini-Mags are slightly better and are actually what I hunt with most of the time. They hit harder and I have fewer animals crawl away with them but they still print groups that are small enough for me to take 100y head shots with confidence if I have a solid rest and the squirrel is sitting still. I hunt with a shooting stick which is not as good as a rest but better than nothing. Most of my shots are from 40-80y with that set up. I mostly hunt with a lighter sporter grade Anschutz rifle but it is no more accurate than the Savage. Only lighter. For subsonic accuracy in this rifle the ammo choices I have had good performance with are:

Lapua CX, Lapua Midas+, SK Std+, Wolf MX

I'm new to the forum but have had my savage for quite some time now and it performs really well with Fiocchi's Standard Velocity Shooting Dynamics. It's a 40gr bullet rated at 1070fps. I bought a couple bricks when everything was in short supply. My regular favorite Wolf .22 ammo was nowhere to be found.
was pleasantly suprised how well the Fiocchi shoots! It's reasonably clean too. My MKII TRR loves it as well! Reasonably priced as well.

My MK II FV-SR has shot CCI Standard Velocity really well. One hole groups at 50 yards all day. They do open up to an inch or so at 100. Pretty accurate rifle for what it is. I did swap the cheap stock for a Boyd's Pro Varmint and the DIP bottom metal. Great fun, especially with a suppressor!

I recently purchased an FV-SR as well. I bought the shorter barrel, 16.5 if I'm not mistaken. I already had a Nikon P-22 on a MP15/22. I had several different ammunitions to try. So far my best shooting has came from Aguila Target Rifle? I believe that's what it's called. It's 40gr 1080fps. I shot just under 1/2" at 50 resting on truck bed. Hope to get to the range soon and bench rest it.

And yet another vote to try CCI standard velocity ...shoots great

Also loves the Wolf and Sk Standard which are essentially the same

For what it's worth the CCI Standard Velocity was blowing through one side of a metal 55 gallon drum at 186 yards

I also upgraded to a boyds tacticool stock and DIP BOTTOM metal and base

I absolutely love my FVSR, again CCI standard gets me close to 1/2" at 50y, done under 1" at 100y many times, just over 1" regularly. Every once in a while you'll get a flyer. I've had the best luck with Eley Edge, Tenex or Match weren't any better so I stuck with Edge for the matches I shoot. I can get out to 300 with around 11-13 mils depending on atmosphere. Really great gun for the money, I bedding mine in a Boyds tacticool, DIP bottom metal. Just wore out the bolt know after 3 years, brazing broke loose and receiver edge worn down effecting heads pace causing FTF. Sending it back to Savage but I shot the hell out of this gun and got it for 250$.
